New to forum, planning hog hunt

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum but not new to predator hunting. I live in Western South Dakota, and call all over the state. My name is Colton and I'm currently a college student enrolled at Black Hills State University. I'm a biology major in my junior year of school. This year for spring break in March, a couple buddies and I are planning a trip to Texas pig hunting. I plan on taking my Ruger sr556 with 1:9 twist, I've done a lot of research and I plan on taking some barnes TSX 62 grain. Any words of advice for other gear or needs for the trip? We would like to bring some meat back, and maybe a couple skulls for trophies.

Be sure to discuss the dates with your host and don't show up to hunt pigs on the opening day of deer or turkey season....like we did.

If you are going with a commercial outfitter, check them out very carefully. IMHO, there are more jackleg hog outfitters than for any other game. You don't want to pay $$$ to end up hunting Herefords in a farmer's pigpen (or worse).

If you plan to hunt at night, I'd recommend a scope with illuminated reticle- it makes things a lot easier. If you plan to bring back meat, make sure you've got plenty of large plastic bags(garbage bags) and plenty of coolers. You'll know alot more of what to bring and what to expect after you've done it once. I remember the first time I went, and was more prepared for the next time.
