Doubled Up

Went out this afternoon to scout a new area for any coyote sign and found a few tracks, but nothing that gave me a good setup so I went to my next spot. Started off down a small game trail and I could see some fresh hog sign, so I had my AR at the ready as I slowly walked down this trail. After about 30 yards into it I heard a few snorts and squeals and peeled left and started tracking a sow around 40 yards away from me. Sent the first round into some high grass just in front of her and when she hit the next opening, thwack. Sent a Hornady 53g Superformance Varmit through the head. Down goes Frazier.... Swung back to the right and couldn't pick up the rest. I kept following the trail and took a 5 minute break to listen for the rest and picked up a dark object moving inside the pines that were adjacent to the trail. Turned out to be a nice sized boar. Double lunged him from about 130 yards. First pigs with the AR and I must say it was a lot of fun.

He only went a few feet. Rather surprising in my opinion but I'm not complaining. I know some will agree that the 53gr Hornady Superformance is a light round for hogs but it sure did the trick on these two.

Yea its light but it got the job done.I've taken a few with my ar's using 64gr soft points.most were neck shots though.I have shot a few hogs that have had 223 rounds stuck in them.I'm still on the fence about using my 223 for hogs.

We have plenty of hogs here in lower Alabama as I'm sure you do too, but I normally chase them with the bow. Makes things a lot easier when your toting a rifle. Plan on doing some more swine control here soon. Almost got some of mommas piggies but they escaped in the brush. They would have been perfect sized for a meal.

Got to say rifles and bows both have their advantages. We chased a group around with the bows over the weekend and the bow doesn't really chase them off after a shot like a rifle. Will try to post more on that if I can get some time today.
great job !

Thank you for the welcome DesertRam.
