Your definition of "Fair Chase"...

Don't want to start a debate here, but I'm curious as to what everyone feels is fair chase. Got into a discussion over the weekend and wanted some enlightenment. Thanks.

Any game animal that is not behind a high fence is considered fair chase to me. Calling coyotes for fur in the open is fair chase. Any predator/ varmint that is contained behind a fence that is of the nuisance problem, is fair chase. Prairie dog hunting IS NOT fair chase. It's just alot of fun...LOL.....

Seriously, my taxidermist has a few clients that do a fenced hunt every year. I see the racks. Big ones too. I don't even pay them any attention. To me, a 90" 6 point whitetail that I have taken off of open ground where I sat in a stand in near zero conditions for 2 weeks without seeing a darn thing is going to mean so much more to me than a 180" 12 point that was taken behind a high fence.

This is always a slippery slope. To each his own I think, no need to fall into the divide and conquer trap. Not to question the poster, but the anti groups love to read this. Like the bird hunters that voted to ban bear & bobcat hunting with hounds, the compound/ long bow, inline/ traditional BP hunters debates, nothing good can come of this. My dentist likes to hunt exotics on a "preserve", there are hunting mags in the office, he's proud to a hunter & NRA member, and stimulates the economy buying guns I can't afford. Some would question the fence issue, some would question if his AR is a "sporting rifle" I don't want to go there as well. If its legal its OK in my book.

+1 - I unfortunately believe that many times, brother hunters can be our own worst enemy. I have met many a decent man and hunter that doesn't believe any of us has the right to take a semi-auto anything into the woods to hunt anything. I think we all know the difference between ethical and unethical hunting. You can be just as unethical with a single shot or a bolt-action as one can be with his semi-auto 12 gauge or AR.

Gun owners and hunters don't need to divide ranks on hunting equipment or harvesting methods unless they want someone to call their's out as well.

It has been a while since I participated in this forum but if everyone is ok, I shall give my opinion. What is 'fair chase"? Anything that is legal.

As stated, we can't divide ourselves further.

Just because its legal doesn't me I will or will want to do it but I won't speak against it because sooner or later someone will be speaking against the way you hunt
