Tree Stand Harnesses?

Not sure if it was a good deal but i picked up a Summit Cobra XL tree stand today, its an old model (early 2000's but it climbs well and the plastic coating on the cables is almost perfect so it hasnt been used much.

Got it for $65 but im curious what is everyones favorite harness? I climbed around in the trees today but didnt feel safe going much higher than 6 feet. Im not worried about the nice $160 padded ones with memory foam padding. Just want a basic one, since i wont be hunting much out of the stand, but wouldnt mind giving it a whirl. Just want one for that peace of mind.

If it would help in your recomendations im 6' +/- a couple inches and I weigh 155 +/- 5 pounds without gear on.

I would contact summit and tell them u just bought the stand used and it did not come with the harness. Maybe they will cut u a deal. Their seat o the pants harness that came with my viper is the best free harness that I have used.

I have a screaming eagle harness, which has saved my life once. I don't knowmif they are still in business. Either way don't go cheap on a good harness, your family will thank you for it.

Oh and I noticed that you can buy replacement cables, the ones in it only show wear on the big Knot deals that are used to adjust length but im curious if it would be smart to spend the $50 and get some new ones just so that I know what I have?

What are HSS harnesses like?

Harness in question

I know guys who either wear none at all or just wear the type that attaches to your waist. Full harness will keep you upright and safer.

The harnesses made by Gorilla are nice. They aren't bulky like alot of them but they are pricey. Its worth it though. Hunter safety system are also a good one.

I would be afraid of a belt style harness dumping me.

Im not trying ti skimp on a harness persay, i just dont feel I need those fancy vest ones that have built in bino straps, hydration bladders, fancy foam straps, and other goodies, just a good solid harness that i can depend on.

While the HSS vests/harnesses are nice I don't like their buckles they use. I just picked up THIS Muddy Outdoors harness. I love it. I'm a tall lanky guy and one size fits most didn't fit so well. They have different sizes to get the best fit. I use the S/M. I am VERY happy with mine so far. I would def. check it out.

I use a hunters safety system and I love it. Easy to get on and off, and it is reversible for use during rifle season when we have to wear orange.

Another HSS user here. Got mine at Dick's Sporting Goods for $99 years ago. Can be snapped off the harness and washed, that was a big + for me. Very light and quick to put on. I don't leave the ground without it.

I think it was Paul Brunner that started it and Roger Rey?

Yep Paul and his wife Karen started SE.Roger came along some years later and bought the company but just couldn't seem to hang onto the customer base.Paul had friends like Gene and Barry Wensel endorsing his stands and selling them at their deer hunting seminars which was a huge help.In fact it was Gene who encouraged Paul to market the stand and it just grew from there.

Paul mad some great bowhunting videos with his friend Tom Storm. Paul was like 5' 5". And Tom was like 6' 8". Lol
