Some comments on this: I know the area and have squirrel hunted there myself with my sons.
First of all a deer drive with rifles? That I consider dangerous, second of all NY state is a very crowded state when it comes to hunting. I don't take my sons hunting during the regular deer season, way too dangerous. I had a shot fly by my head a few years back and I learned my lesson....
I honestly would not risk my kids during the deer season.
There's still much to find out about this, I don't think the hunter arrested was completely legit.

MONTGOMERY, N.Y. — A 9-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound and a hunter faces reckless endangerment charges after the child was shot in the stomach while helping drive deer in Orange County.
Lt. Martin Townley of the state Department of Environmental Conservation police says the boy, whose name wasn't released, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center Saturday and is expected to recover.
The hunter, 47-year-old Douglas Sisco of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, and several environmental conservation violations. He was sent to the Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail.
The shooting took place in Montgomery, about 60 miles northwest of New York City, Saturday afternoon. The boy and several men were flushing deer toward Sisco.
