Macdaddy howler

Has anybody tried the macdaddy howler? I have an open reed howler but can't consistently make good howls with it. I used my friends macdaddy and LOVED it. It sounds convincing to me, but I'm a newb so I'm not sure. Does anybody use this? Thanks guys.

First post here. Glad I found this sight! Started yote hunting this past winter and am addicted now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the info. Howdy javafour, thanx, I'm excited about finding this forum. TONS of good info on here. Anybody else think it stinks too?

Indeed it is a great forum. But one thing to note on any predator forum. Generally if you ask about ANY commercial call, you will be told by some that it stinks, and that only a custom can from one of boards call makers can call critters.
Custom calls are about pride of ownership, but there are any number of fine commercial calls that will call just as many coyotes and cats. So just keep practicing with your call, you may find out it works for you.

lookn4fur, Man Im sorry it didnt work for you. I assure you that maybe you got one with a bad reed in it or something. I tell you what lets make it right for you. Email jsahm@hunterspec.com and tell him your problem. Tell him I said to send you some replacement reeds and if that dont work Ill send you mine. Thats all I can do. These are really good howlers and Im totaly bummed you dont like it. Here is a sound clip of the macdaddy http://www.esnips.com/doc/fde9a5c9-182a-4419-9412-e98c74f657f0/howl I hope this helps brother. I know there will be a few at the world next month on stage. Thats how much I like em. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have got to hear Steve with his first hand, it had great tone and sounded more realistic then a lot of the "over the counter" howlers out there. I think with anything new on the market (new design) it sometimes gets a "I couldn't use it" stamp because it is so different and a little hard to get use to... I think the sound it makes is worth the extra time to learn it. I have one, but I am not a master of it yet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif It does take a little time to get it down... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Steve,
I certainly don't claim to be any kind of expert on coyote language. But to me the howls on the sound clip sound as good as any I have ever heard. If I could make howls like that on any call I'd be proud as a peacock.

I appologize for the comment. I do make custom calls but I'm in no way stating that a custom call is the only way to go. I use a lot of commercial stuff as well.

I purchased the Mac Daddy Howler and thought it sounded bad so I took it back and swapped it out for another. I was thinking maybe I just got a bum reed or something. It's not like I don't know how to blow a call so I gave it some time. After two weeks of preety consistant use, I still was not pleased with the pitch and inconsistancy of the call. The call is fine and will call in critters. It's just not to my likings. There are a lot of calls that I feel this way about. I'm sure people feel the same way about some of my calls.....Tim

Ive used lots of Howlers. I love the Pocket Howler from Carver Predator Calls. Its extremely easy to blow and you don't get "skips" and breaks like you do with a lot of howlers. It also does great Rabit distress. The "Ruthless Rabbit" from Carver also does great howls and is extremely easy to blow.
