Congressional Dems Push to Require a License to Exercise Fundamental, Constitutional Right

Democrats on Capitol Hill have debuted a proposal to help mandate that those who want a handgun first be approved for a permit. The legislation, backed by Dems in both the House and Senate, would encourage more states to adopt licensing schemes like Connecticut’s handgun purchasing law, which requires a special renewable permit to purchase any revolver or pistol. Dubbed the Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act, the bill was introduced by U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy of Connecticut along with U.S. Reps. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn and Jamie Raskin, D-Md.

The Worst Advice Column Ever Written?

From Live Well Nebraska comes the most amusingly hysterical and extraordinarily ignorant advice column I have read in a long while. It consists of a question, posed by a man writing as “Dumbfounded Father,” and a response, offered by “syndicated columnist” Amy Dickinson. At no point in the exchange does either person range within a country mile of reality.

I wish the gay community were more accepting of gun supporters. I should know.

Last June, I attended my first Pride parade. I’m a 24-year-old gay man, and the downtown D.C. event came two months after I started my new job as social media manager for the National Rifle Association. The District, where I live, is a liberal city. Gay people are embraced; guns are not. You don’t have to see how the District votes to know that. You can tell by the signs in people’s yards and the bumper stickers on their cars. The gay community is largely anti-gun, too.

Dems: The Second Amendment Was About Hunting, You Know

Earlier today, Ed picked through the bones of Eric Swalwell’s laughable gun control platform, pointing out a very real gap in the congressman’s grasp of the Second Amendment. But the longshot POTUS candidate isn’t the only member of his party that seems to have trouble grasping the finer points of the Bill of Rights.

THE DAILY SIGNAL
Gun Rights Made All the Difference for These Intended Victims

Contrary to the rhetoric of many gun control advocates, the Second Amendment’s protection of the individual right to keep and bear arms is not a malevolent, outdated barricade to peace that must be demolished or diminished in the name of public safety.

Only Thing Sadder Than Swalwell's Gun Control Proposal? His 'Rally' Numbers Outside NRA's Headquarters

Over the last few days Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) has continually teased a "really big rally" where he'd unveil his gun control proposal outside of the National Rifle Association's headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia on Monday.

FOX NEWS
Rep. Thomas Massie, John Lott: Gun-Free Zones Need to Go. They Are not only Ineffective, They're Dangerous

The tragedy at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center fits an all too familiar pattern—yet another mass shooting in a place the victims were banned from carrying guns. The most lives are claimed in places where people can’t defend themselves on equal footing. It’s not a coincidence the attack occurred in a public building filled with public employees prohibited from carrying handguns, concealed or otherwise.

NRA celebrates 'highly successful' year in Texas as new gun bills signed into law

It will soon be easier to carry guns in Texas churches, schools, apartment buildings and disaster zones. Sunday was the deadline for Gov. Greg Abbott to approve or veto bills passed during the 2019 meeting of the Texas Legislature, which wrapped up late last month. An effort to do away with the state's gun licensing rules failed to reach his desk, but Abbott signed several bills that will further loosen Texas' permissive gun laws. Pro-gun groups like the National Rifle Association said the session was very successful.

NEWS
A Tale of Two Rallies

The 2020 presidential contest is now underway in earnest. On Tuesday, President Trump officially kicked off his reelection campaign to a packed house at the 20,000 seat Amway Center in Orlando, FL. Earlier that day, one of the two dozen or so contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination tried to have a rally of his own to draw attention to his signature issue of gun control. The difference between the two events speaks volumes about the role the Second Amendment plays in American politics.

Anti-gun lawmakers, including some of those vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, are becoming increasingly open about their desire to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens and jail those who don’t comply. Maine: Legislature Adjourns Sine Die, Gun Control Measures Defeated

On June 20th, the Maine Legislature adjourned from the first session of the 129th Legislature. During this session, several egregious pieces of anti-gun legislation were defeated, including bills to criminalize private transfers of firearms and ban many commonly-owned standard capacity magazines. Thwarting efforts to threaten shooting ranges, the Legislature instead took steps to protect ranges, passing a bill that Governor Janet Mills signed into law. Unfortunately, the Legislature missed an opportunity to pass a Stand Your Ground measure, LD 533, that would have strengthened Mainers’ fundamental right to self-defense anywhere they are legally allowed to be.

Why the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum Site Is Hunters’ Top Tool

When the NRA was founded in 1871, shooting and hunting were distinct parts of America’s culture, readily perceived as one in the same. But while the 5.2-million-member NRA is America’s largest organization of hunters with 3.5 million hunters in its ranks, the NRA and American hunters are not telling their story—and hunting and shooting have evolved into separate entities.
