Pennsylvania State Rep. Marty Flynn exchanged gunfire Tuesday with suspects who were trying to commit a robbery. Flynn, (D-Scranton) and state Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, (D-Erie) were walking from the State Capitol in Harrisburg to a residence when assailants approached them.
According to a press release on Rep. Flynn’s website, a male pointed a gun first at Flynn and then at Bizzarro and demanded their wallets. Meanwhile, a second male across the street was shouting directions to the first assailant.
According to Rep. Flynn’s website, neither lawmaker handed over anything. “Flynn drew a handgun that he is licensed to carry and exchanged shots with the first male at which time both attackers and victims ran in different directions.”
The lawmakers then contacted police. “We were extremely impressed by the professional manner in which the Harrisburg police officers responded to our call,” Bizzarro said. “We are very grateful.”
“We certainly are going to stand up for ourselves and not become victims,” Flynn says.
Reportedly, arrests have been made in the case.
