How Important is Securing our Borders in the Fight Against Terrorism?

I've recently posted a number of articles pointing out the dismal failure of our current immigration policy which does little or nothing to secure our borders. In fact, to the contrary, actually encourages the mass invasion which has reached crisis proportions on our southern border. Unfortunately, many do not seem to grasp the extent of this phenomenon, which has reached epic proportions of late & has resulted in declaration of a national emergency:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-...-united-states/

Mexican drug cartels are not only making money off these immigrants, charging up to $7000 US per head to transport them through Mexico, delivering them by the busload to the border in remote areas where they can swim the Rio Grande or simply walk across the border into the US. The gangs also profit on the misery of these poor folks via forced prostitution of many of the young women, not to mention actual rental of young children to illegals who present as "families" in order to gain favorable consideration which is known to be granted to family units entering the country illegally. It is anybody's guess as to the fate of those young children once they have served their purpose.

A side benefit to the cartels is that they know exactly when and where ICE agents will be kept busy handling the illegals, giving them time to cross illegal drugs, money and guns unmolested somewhere else.

Many of those who make up the tidal wave from the south are, indeed, just seeking employment and to better their lives. Unfortunately the percentage of OTM's (Other than Mexicans) has steadily increased in recent times. One such group contained one individual who claimed to be from Ethiopia and another from Pakistan along with a few from Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, etc. All were beneficiaries of the "catch and release" policy which has been forced upon our hard working ICE agents due to fact that all shelters (both governmental and private sector) are filled to the bursting point from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico as of last week.

It has been reported that this has resulted in approximately half of the available Border Patrol officers being relegated to clerical duties processing the new arrivals and caring for them "behind the lines", further weakening our southern border.

Until such "carrots" as anchor babies, chain migration, and the *process for application for political asylum, to name a few, are addressed and corrected by the legislature, the flow of immigrants will continue, and, actually increase.

*What Is Asylum? Who Is Eligible? Why Do Recent Changes Matter?

I've been told that Border Patrol officers are currently stationed at interval along the border to "welcome" these groups of immigrants and direct them to the next step in the process, which consists of assigning a court date, which the immigrant promises to honor, then releasing them to proceed on to the nearest bus station to travel to any destination of their choice.

How many of these individuals are members of violent gangs, such as MS 13, etc.? Many are in very poor health and require immediate medical assistance, some with communicable diseases. Not to mention that it is not hard to figure out that some are actually terrorists or at the very least tend to migrate to areas such as described in following article.

Is Michigan a Terror Stronghold?

A police report obtained by Newsweek calls Detroit “a lucrative recruiting area and potential support base for international groups.”

Oct. 20 — With one of the largest populations of Arabs outside the Middle East, Detroit and its surrounding suburbs have become fertile ground for terrorism fund-raising and recruiting. “The Detroit/Dearborn area is a major financial support center for many Mideast terrorist groups,” according to a Michigan State Police report obtained by NEWSWEEK. “Southeast Michigan is known as a lucrative recruiting area and potential support base for international terrorist groups. It is also conceivable that ‘sleeper cells’ may be located in that area of the state.”

THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE submitted the “Three-Year Statewide Domestic Preparedness Strategy” report to the U.S. Justice Department earlier this month, to help support a request for federal funds to fight terrorism in Michigan. A police spokesman says the report “was not intended for public distribution.”

Almost every major terrorist organization has operatives in Michigan, according to the report. Citing information received from the Detroit office of the FBI, the report says “most of the 28 international terrorist groups recently identified by the State Department… are represented in Michigan. Examples include such well-known terrorist organizations as Hizballah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Egyptian Brotherhood, Al-Gama’at, Al-Islamiyya, and Osama bin Laden’s terrorist organization—Al Qaeda.” The Detroit office of the FBI declines to comment on the report, which it has not yet reviewed, says a spokeswoman.

Those groups, along with domestic “patriot groups” in Michigan, combine to create 374 “potential-threat elements” statewide, the report says. A State Police spokesman describes such elements as individuals or groups who could engage in acts of terror. ”

To raise money for international terrorist groups overseas, operatives in Michigan “commit criminal acts” the report says. It cites two arrests made last year in Detroit, which had direct links to international terrorist groups. “In November, 2000, two individuals were arrested in Detroit by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force for smuggling weapons and military equipment to Lebanon. Evidence existed that linked the individuals to the terrorist group Hizballah,” according to the report.

On Sept. 17, the FBI raided a house in a rundown neighborhood in Southwest Detroit looking for a suspected associate of Osama bin Laden. Instead, they found three men and a trove of forged documents, including visas, a passport and 28 passport-sized photos. They also found a day planner with Arabic notations about the “American air base in Turkey,” the “American foreign minister” and the “Alia Airport” in Jordan. The day planner also contained drawings of an airport believed to be the U.S. military base in southern Turkey that patrols the no-fly zone in Iraq.

The man the feds were looking for in Detroit, Nabil al-Marabh, was arrested near Chicago a few days later and is now in federal custody in New York. According to published reports, Al-Marabh has been identified as an associate of bin Laden by Raed Hijazi, who is on trial in Jordan for the foiled plot to blow up tourist sites on the eve of the Millennium. Al-Marabh, a former Boston cab driver born in Kuwait, is suspected of knowing two of the Sept. 11 hijackers.

In Detroit, three men are facing federal fraud charges in connection with the forged documents found in the Detroit raid. Two of the men, Karim Koubriti, 23, and Amed Hannan, 33, both Moroccan, have been in federal custody since the raid. Both formerly worked for at Detroit Metropolitan Airport as dishwashers for an airline catering service, before quitting in June to take truck-driving lessons. A third suspect, Youssef Hmimssa, was arrested on Sept. 28 in Iowa. He pled not guilty to federal fraud charges in Detroit on Oct. 17. Authorities say Hmimssa’s photo appeared on a forged passport found in the raid of the Detroit house. FBI sources say Hmimssa is believed to have traveled the world using several aliases.

This nation was, and indeed still is, a nation of immigrants. There is, however, a huge difference between legal and illegal immigration. It is high time that the legislature does the job for which they are paid and come up with some ideas as to how to stem the tide of illegal immigration.

One thing I don't understand is why they let them cross and why do they let them stay? Wouldn't a better idea be to kick their butts back across the border?

They don't actually "let" them cross. The border in Texas is actually the center of the Rio Grande which twists and turns a lot. Therefore, the wall, where we have one, usually is built along the flood control levee which is sometimes a mile or so from the river. The illegals slip across the river and are on US soil and current law allows anyone to claim political asylum once on US soil, but they must go before an immigration judge who determines if they are eligible or not. President Trump fixed that by Presidential Proclamation requiring all applications for asylum be made at official ports of entry but I think this has been stayed by court order.

Immigration courts are overwhelmed so the illegal is given a court date. Mexican citizens can be sent back to Mexico to await their hearing. OTMs cannot so they are released into the US, free to travel where they wish if they "promise" to appear for their hearing. Suuure they will.

Most of the illegals of late have been OTMs, or claim to be, just as they arrive in groups that "claim" to be a family since they are schooled as to what to declare upon arrival in the US in order to play the system. Don't have a family with you; not to worry, the cartels have juveniles available that can be "rented" in order to form a "family group".

If Congress would do it's job and fix the badly broken immigration laws, illegal immigration could be reduced dramatically.

In the meantime, we have another caravan estimated to number 1200 illegals en route to the southern border.
