Deputy pleads 'not guilty' in Taser case

NAVARRE - A Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy pleaded 'not guilty' to charges of violating a man's civil rights when he allegedly tasered and then kicked the man.

Deputy Richard G. Farnham was one of many out of area officers to patrol Navarre to after Hurricane Ivan ravaged the state. It is alleged that he confronted two homeowners and after an argument, used his taser on one of the men, then kicked him while he was down.

The injured man is Daniel Thompson, 54, a retired New York City police captain.

The other man who is expected to testify in the trial is a retired Air Force colonel.

This is the second Federal trial against Taser use in the Pensacola area. An Escambia County Deputy resigned in Augusts of 2005 after it was found he improperly used his Taser in shooting a woman with it four times after she tried to report a child abuse allegation.
