Bat poop or rodent on ledge?

Me and my buddy were hiking in a small canyon that is full of ledges teaching chipmunks and rabbits how to fly with my .17. We saw a huge pile of crap on a ledge! It was about ten by five feet, and around one-three inches thick! It was all hard add shiny. I had seen it before in cliffs, and was told it was woodrat crap. I doubt a little rodent would poop like this, or this much on one ledge. My dad says that it is from bats, and that they'll hang on that ledge on the summer. Anyone know what this crap is?

I think your dad is probably correct.. I'm just trying to figure out where all the little red berries came from... Usually birds will leave an area like that but there are no mud nests up above the droppings.

About the only bat crap I've come in contact with is back in some of our caves and it almost never gets hard like that, but then it's not exposed to the elements like that looks.

Maybe a sick Bobcat with the runs crawled up there... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just got my wife to look at your pics - she's a bat rehabilitator in Eastern Nebraska. She says it doesn't look like any bat poop that she's ever seen, but she's only worked with bats in our area. She says that sometimes bat poop is shiny because it contains insect parts but the shape isn't like anything she's seen.
