what exactly does it mean when a coyote "rubs?"

i think it means they are loosing theyre winter coats. i was wondering to but didnt want to be the first to ask!

Moe, you beat me to it......NASA explaned it pretty good I'd say. He actually had some pet coyotes years back and is pretty up on those kind of things. Besides, he's an old California Predator Caller and a past CVCA member like a few other guys I know.

Where i live it still gets to -30 below zero and our coyote season is going to be over in 6 days because the fur is no good anymore. Do you think they have a head start on summer. Do you think they are shedding there losing all there hair in a head start for summer no.
Their guard hairs are breaking off or falling out making them not look as pretty for todays fashions. They still have alot of fur just alot less guard hairs (the long ones). Which coincides with mating season.
