6mm Varmint Grenade

Has anyone used these bullets on coyote? Do they penetrate deep enough to get to the vitals?

If so what velocities do you load to and what powders seem to work best with them?

Thinking of using these, or at least trying them.

They are designed to blow up on grapes. Should be good for splashes and runners. If you like to watch your Coyotes run never to be seen again after the shot give em a try. By the way these bullets have lead cores so if lead has been banned in CA these bullets will not be obtainable. I probably summed this up for everybody that wanted to post but didn't.

Well it seems Barnes would disagree with you, here is a copy/paste from their web site. (emphasis (bold) added)

http://www.barnesbullets.com/products/new-products/new-varmint-grenade/

"Celebrating its 75th Anniversary, Barnes Bullets ® is introducing the Varmint Grenade™, an all-new lead-free varmint bullet that delivers explosive results. Originally developed for military applications, the bullet’s copper-tin composite core is highly frangible, greatly reducing the chance of ricochets. The new flat-base, hollow-cavity bullet remains intact at ultra-high velocities, yet fragments explosively on impact. Virtually vaporizes ground squirrels and prairie dogs, even at extended range. The bullet blows up completely at high speed, creating little or no exit wound on larger animals. Leaves coyote and bobcat pelts virtually undamaged. Delivers sniper-like accuracy for dependable long-range kills."

Just wondering if anyone has used them in the field yet.

We will just have to try the Varmint Grenades to see how they work. The other Barnes bullets will just blow right through California coyotes. It will probably take a few years for the bullet manufacturers to come up with some lead free bullets for the new demand.

What demand?

Just buy bullets out of state.

Don't think you quite understand, it's not or won't be ilegal to buy or shoot lead ammo, just not hunt big gsme or coyotes with them. Will be a $500 fine if you do.

The demand will still be there for hunting bullets and non lead ammo.
