What is the best powder to use with the 300WSM? I am going to try the Berger 168 gr.vld bullets and would like to try some powder that works good for that cal.I was wondering about Varget or H380 or if something works better I would try it I just don`t want to buy 12 different powders to find one that works best?

Mine loves 72 gr of H-4831sc behind the 168 gr Barnes TSX. I have a target in my book that has a 10 shot group at 100 yds you can cover with a quarter, except for one little sliver showing on one edge. The rifle is an A-Bolt with a 23" barrel and I'm getting right at a 3050 fps average, according to my Chrony.

I shoot a 300 WSM in 1000 yard competition, not the same as deer hunting I know. The powder I use is H4831SC with a 210 Berger.

I e-mail berger and the sent a load data sheet but I just wondering which of the 14 different poders people has had the best look with? I have tried the imr4831 with good luck and I have used the Varget in the 22-250 and theh380 in my 25-06 with good luck but I have not tried in the 300WSM yet. so far it sounds like h4831sc might be worth a try.
thanks guys

One powder you will see listed often for the 300WSM is H 4350(& IMR 4350). I use it for 165 & 180 grn bullets. I have not tested a bunch of powders with my A-Bolt but the only other powder I have used for it is some H4895 with light 150 grn loads.

I'm using 69.5 grains of H4831sc with a 180 grain Nosler Partition. I've chrono'd these at 2950fps out of my Model 70. Groups are right at 1" at 100 yards. Plenty good for anything I hunt! I've used this load to shoot clay targets at 550 yards. Hit 4 of 6 last time out.

thanks for the info. I think I will try some h4831sc to start with it seems like there is a lot that shoot that powder! How does that powder feed thru your powder drop?

The sc in H-4831sc stands for Short Cut. It's an extruded powder (rod shaped) and is supposed to have all the same properties as regular H-4831 except it's cut much shorter. Therefore it meters much better than "long cut" powders. There are some other "short cuts" hitting the market now, IMR-7828sc for one and it seems reasonable to expect more as time passes.
