hide tanning

i was just curious as to what everyones favoret tanning agent was, im looking for somthing to make wall hangers and rugs and blankets with, and i want the softest tanning agent avalible but i also want something that will have unlimited shelf life, i read somewhere that anything with alum will cause the hide to ruin in about 30 years and i dont want that, so i was just wondering what the best tanning agent to make super soft furs for blankets and stuff would be. i also want a good tan that i can use for hides that im going to mount, because i have heard to many bad things about dry perserv, so i need a good tan for this too. any help is greatly apriciated

Cant help you on the dry tan but I use Krowtann 2000 for my wet tans and I really like the results. Ive used on everything from squirrel, coon, coyote, bobcat deer etc and have had great results. And its dang near idiot proof.. Takes around 4 days, and the hide comes out nice and stretchy.
