I'm about to order 8# of powder for reloading. I've used h380 with good results, but I've read great things about win 760. I'll be useing 55 gr. at 400yds.r I'd like to hear opinions on h380 vs w760 for the 22-250.
THanks

h380 is a classic varmiter powder, 760 is essentially h 414 which is a bit slower burning. if you're using the light bullets i'd stick to 380 if you want to lean toward 60 gr and heavier then 414

ive found reloader 15 to be great in bullet weights from 40-52gr. the only other powder worth mentioning in my gun is ramshot biggame w/ 50-55 grainers.

Varget!!! does great in my Savage model 12, and also did very well in my old 788. The only 55gr bullets I've used lately were just for breaking in my new model 12 and I didn't really care about working up a good load for it in the 55's. It also did very well in a pre-64 Winchester. Not as temp sensitive as 380. It doesn't like to push the 40 grainers very well though. I use H335 for those.

H-380 has been my accurracy load for years with 55's in a savage varminter but it does drop velocity in cold weather. Will be working up loads with H-4895 next to see how it campares. I'm sure it's less temperature sensitive. 760 worked OK for me but didn't group as well as 380.

I would do some more load development before ordering 8 pounds of an unknown to one of my guns.

I have used WW760 in a .22-250 and in my rifle ...... a picky one .... it worked absolutely grand until Winchester changed it ...... (when metal cans went by the way side)

After that I could not get it to shoot worth BEANS!

When the barrel on it finally gave up the ghost ....... Varget!

I have used W-760 & AA 2700 (they're about the same burn rate) with GREAT results in all 3 of my 22-250's... and yes the H-4895 is hard to beat, but the 760 & 2700 meters SO WELL, and I'm getting just as good or better accuracy. I have used H-380, but I ended up with the 760,2700 & 4895.
I use the 760, 2700 in all the 250's and all of my 243's as well! It works for me! I do feel however that the H-4895 is probably less temp sensitive. Good luck, Sam

I think Benchmark is one of the hidden secrets in powder today. I use it in 17 MK4 up to 223AI and everything in between. Great powder, may try it in a 22-250 someday.

I think you did fine with your choice of H4895. You can cover a lot of bases with it. I have not got around to buying an 8 lb keg of powder yet but if I did H4895 may well be my 1st choice.

I got my order of 4895 and have been working up some loads. Right now I'm trying 34grs with 55gr pills. I've never been more impressed by a propellent in my life. The consistancy is incredable. Way better than h380 in my opinion. Thanks guys.

I'd take a hard look at H4895 before buying powder. I have about 7+ pounds of H380 and am now using H4895 in my 22-250's

I agree with Dan Carey on his above statement. I have had excellent results using the H4895 for bullets in the 55 range.

H380 is ok for the 50-52 wt's, but I think the H4895 will serve you better. As far as the Win powders go; I have never used them.

H380 groups well, Varget may be more consistent in the cold and better with heavier bullets though. All my 760 goes into 7-08 or 30-06's....
