Does any one use IMR 4198 for .223?

I'm having great success with IMR 4198 for my 45/70. I am trying it also for my 30/30. Recently I saw that it used to be a favorite powder for the .223. With the three calibers covered, that would be nice to have to buy only one powder for the three rifles I shoot most of the time.
I probably have 12 different powders on the shelf for various reasons and shooting.

Do any of you use it for .223 or perhaps 243?

Thanks

I have used IMR-4198 in my .223 AI with 40 grain bullets and it works great.......Its a little fast burning for the 50 grain bullets so your velocity is going to be way down. Nosler recommends 22 grs. for their 50 gr. BT but the velocity is like 3230 fps. If you are using 40 Gr. bullets it very good, if you are using 50 gR. bullets, I'd probably recommend Benchmark..........

Never used 4198 in 223 Rem. but my favorite load in my 223 is 26 gr. of 4895 with 50 gr. Nosler Spitzer. It shoots GREAT out of my CZ 527.

Yes...I use 20 grains of it, along with a Hornady 55gr SXSP bullet.

I also use the same charge in my 222, with a Hornady 50gr SXSP.

From IMR's website:
"This fast burning rifle powder gives outstanding performance in cartridges like the 222 Remington, 221 Fireball, 45-70 and 450 Marlin. Varmint shooters with small bore cartridges love it."

I used it exclusively in the .223 pushing 55 grain bullets and get great results for accuracy...I load for accuracy over speed.

I have recently switched to H4198...just because it is more temperature stable...and my loads don't change as much whether I shoot in winter or summer. The Hodgdon version also meters easier.

Beware load data for IMR4198 and H4198 do not interchange.

IMR4198 is a great powder in the .223. I've been loading RL10X since it came out because it shoots great in several of my rifles but I shot 4198 for many years in my .223s.
