Difference between .223 and .224

Went shopping for 22 caliber bullets for my 223. Saw 2 different diameters. They were listed as .223 and .224 what is the significant difference between the 2 other than the diameter?

The .223 diameters bullets are allmost obsolete. Some older 22 hornets were actually cut for .223 bullets. All modern 22 cal. rifles are designed to use .224 bullets
 
Except for some of the guns chambered in 22 Hornet which need the .223 bullets. Otherwise, everything else in the .22 cal centerfires, to include the .223 Remington, uses .224" bullets.

The .218 Bee, the .219 Zipper, the .220 Swift, the .221 Fireball, the .222 Rem, the .223 Rem, the .224 Weatherby, and the .225 Winchester all use bullets that are .224" in diameter.

.22 Hornet rifles made in the 1940's used surplus rimfire barrels, so they used .223" diameter bullets.

The .22 Savage uses bullets that are .228" diameter.

The best way to determine what diameter bullet to buy is to read your reloading manual, it has all that information in it, if you aren't familiar with a particular caliber write it down for when you go shopping for components.

I did read my reloading manual and right you are it says .224 for the 223. However, I was asking what is the difference between the two other than the obvious .001 diameter difference.
