do foxes howl?

im just wondering becuase my school newspaper name is the "foxes howl" i know how lame! and it bugs me cuz im pretty sure foxes dont howl. and i wanna write a letter to the editor! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
 
The Grey Fox yell-bark is the closest to a howl that you are going to get. It's not as drawn out as a howl, but could be taken as one.

I have heard it many time while sitting in a tree stand right before dark.

Using that same format, I don't see why we couldn't construct a similar table for coyote vocalizations, as well.

But hasn't our "understanding" of these vocalizations matured in the past 30 years? Or was Lehner infallible with his interpretations? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
