brain tanning

i was wondering where u guys get your cow/pig brains to tan your hides.

I've personally never done any brain tanning, but have read about it. I would guess a slaughter house or possibly a meat market.

I learned that too in a survival course. It may be literally true, but those Indians had to be real experts or have some lousy tanning jobs. No way could I do it with only the one animal's own brain.

My dad did some brain tanning a few years back. Like yellowhammer said, he went to the local butcher and got the brains from them for free. +1 on rich's comment. However, until you get profficient at the process, you will probably want/need more than the 1 brain per hide.

Where can you get the taxidermy tan stuff besides the internet? Will most taxidermists have some that they will sell?

because i am 16 years old with no credit card. Plus i have never actually killed a coyote so i dont want to waste my money for something that might never come, so i will just buy a bottle if i do ever get one.
