This morning was the first morning I had a chance to get out and do a little bird hunting, and what a day it was.. His color was little strange from other Turkeys I've killed in the past, this one had alot of gold color to him..

He weighed 21# and a 10" beard with 1 1/8" spurs

OK, not my kid, for he's not being born for another week. However, it is a close friends and I have to admit, he is one cool kid. Anyway, he took a "Turket" hunting adventure with dad last weekend, and withen 10 minutes of setting up 2 "Turkets" showed up. He screamed "Dad...Turkets....shoot" and so dad shot.
Notice the toy AR he totes around. He shot it with that also......
PS He'll be 3 in about a week.

Grunter,
I watched him hit a moving bobcat in the head at 150 yrds with that one. That's what he takes with him when we call at night. Its pretty dam deadly to 300.
1/2 inch group at 100 yrds.
If you or anybody else is interested, PM me and I'll give you his email addy and ya'll can talk shop.

I went out huinting Saturday morning when I just got off of work. I was heading to a spot that would make a good set up when all of a sudden, I jumped 2 hens. So I immediatley started calling. When I started to call I heard a turkey gobble down on my left side and I heard several gobblers on the right. No sooner than I had my decoy up I started calling. There was 4 jakes came right up tp me decoy. I shot thod jake sbout 20 yards away with a Westernfield 12 ga pump, shoting Winchester Suprem High Velociy #4 shot. The jake weighed about 18lbs and had a 4" beard. His spurs may have been 1/2" long.

Here is my brother-in-law Jesse, Horseshoer on the board. This is his first turkey with a bow. We got him this morning. He made a hale marry 55 yard shot on him. He was goofing around playing Ted Nugent and didn't know I snapped this pic. He wanted me to enter a different picture but I couldn't resist, Sorry Jesse.

Since everyone will be posting pics of themselves posing with their gobblers, here's a different sort of picture... this a good close-up of the band that was on the leg of the turkey I killed this past Saturday... if you want to see me posing with the gobbler, check out my post in the bird forum titled "Banded Jake"...

He was a pretty big jake - 19lbs... still can't believe I killed a banded turkey... one of only 500 that have been banded in Louisiana since 1989... with odds like that in my favor, I guess I should pick up a couple of lottery tickets this week... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I dont normally shoot jakes but I only had 2 days to hunt this season so I took the first redhead I could draw a bead on. I didnt way him but he was bis for a jake. The beard was about 4" and .250" spurs. Cant wait to drop him in the deep frier.

Father and Son DOUBLE!!!

We had 15 minutes before Bryan had to go to school when we heard these birds. They were about 600 yards away and we could only cut that distance in half before we ran out of woods.

The birds were on the other side of 200+ yards of open field and then a road, so we set up by a tree and I hit them with very loud and aggressive cutting. As soon as they crossed the road I turned and yelped behind me like the hens were walking away, into the woods, and I set my call down.

Those birds were almost running by trying to catch up with the hens when Bryan shot his at about 20 feet. The second bird stopped about 15 yards out to see what was going on and I dropped him. It had taken 15 minutes and we got pictures and then off to school.

I was hunting Merriams near Coeur d'Alene Friday. My 2 friends each got Toms the prior 2 days. As a change in pace Monte and I went to a Pro boxing match at the Indian casino thursday night. I'd never been to a boxing match so it was pretty cool. There was one KO which was lights out!
Monte dropped me off in the dark then drove the truck a mile up the road to park. I hiked to the top of the ridge. I heard a gobbler further up the ridge to the west in the trees against the dawn's opening light. I positioned myself a little up hill of the bird about 75yds away. As I sat down next to a big Pondorosa pine I heard the Tom gobble on the ground...then the spitting strut sounds and a couple hen yelps. I yelped a couple times with my diaphragm call...then I see the white top of the tom's head coming over the sage infront of me about 30yds. When he got to 25yds I put his head on top of my bead and touched off the Benelli loaded with 3 1/2" Federal Premium 2 1/4oz copper plated 4's. He has a 9 1/2" beard with 1 1/8" spurs.
