Looking at thermal scopes using the ATN ThOR LT 320 3-6x as an example, it lists the sensor as either 160x120 17um or 320x240 12um. What's the difference between the two and what does 17um or 12 um mean? Does one display a better view than the other?

The 2 numbers refer to the number of Microns a screen has. The micron number is referring to the sensor in the scope. The lower the micron number the more efficient the scope is. What that means is that a thermal can have more magnification with the same lens size if it has a lower micron sensor.

for coyote hunting 384 resolution sensor is about as low as Id go to be able to id your target animal. It costs money to play in the night game. Basically I'll tell u what I was told when i was first looking at thermals. Spend at least $3000 on a thermal scope to get something you can be happy with. Dont Spend $1000 or $2000 and not be happy with what you have. Then it costs more to do it right the next time
