Based on all the great bobcat pictures you post, there is no shortage of them in your area, Bob.
I think many state F&W departments need to get out from behind their desks a bit more and spend more time in the field assessing game populations.
You are right about over-protection during peak population periods can only exacerbate the spread of mange, and other diseases. Mother nature will control the population, but may not be the most humane solution.
