I live on a ranch and have been shooting varmits with bolt actions but now I’ve gotten interested in AR 15s. Shoot mostly 223 45gr-55gr soft points. We have a few pastures where a 300yard shot is possible. But a lot of it would be 50-100 yard shooting.

What optic would be ideal under these conditions?

pretty much anything you would use on a bolt gun. I prefer japanese built optics myself. ziess v4 probably my first choice. bushnell elites, (used) nightforce, huskemaw. maybe the burris FF line for a cheap scope.

the leupold fire dots aren't bad either if you want to take some running shots on rabbits etc.

I use an ATN 4K 5X20 day/night scope for over 3 years. It is on my SBR 300 Blackout.
Specwar 7,62 with rangefinder (ABL). ARMS #35 QD mount.
