Gents ,
I'm looking to load Nosler BT and
Varmagdedon , both 55 and 70 grain for coyotes , and 85 grain Partitions for PA deer .
On hand I've got Varget - H4350 - VV N135 - 160 - 4895 , Lapua brass.
It's going in a Ruger No1

Any help you can pass on from your personal experience is appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and help .

I too had a Number 1 in .243 Winchester. Had the 26" pencil barrel. It shot the 55 grain Ballistic Tips into cloverleafs at 100 yards with 45 grains of Varget. I think I used the CCI BR primer for it but that was a few years ago.

In all honesty, I'd work a load up with the powder you have the most of. A lot of it is real hard to get right now. Nothing worse than working up a load and run out of powder.

Thank you gentlemen for sharing your knowledge and experience !

I’ve got more Varget than anything but When I had my AR .223 Wylde Varget was great with the 69 Sierras but not light bullets. That rifle had a Krieger VARMATCH 7.7 Twist and liked longer Bullets .

I’m guessing my No1 is a 10 Twist , so just an assumption on my part is it will like the 55s , but I need something about 85 grains for PA deer . I’ve never loaded for the .243 before . What do you think is adaquate for deer , 70- 80-85 grain Bullets??

Anyone ever hunt with a No1 , Coyotes or Deer ?
Thank you,

Soup,

I am going to post a link to some very in depth reading. This particular fellow is not a lover of heavy for caliber copper bullets.

But he sure waxed poetic about the 85 grain Barnes line.

Have a scroll down and find .243 Winny

I worked up a very accurate load for my Tikka T3x Superlite in 243 Win last year using IMR4064 and Barnes 80 gr TTSX bullets.

Try the H4350 with the 85's, and even the 70's. My very first rifle 30+ years ago was a 243 built on a Mauser action and 46gr H4350 and 75 gr Hdy hp was the ticket. Varget with the 55s and 70s should be good.

H4350 with the 85s. Should end up somewhere in the 42-43 grain range. I used to shoot 87 grain berger VLDs and VMAXs over 42.6 grains of H4350.

The Partition will get the job done on deer.. I shoot Speer 85gr BTSP for both deer & coyote..
You shouldn't have any problem finding a good accurate load for the 243 with what you have on hand.

Some of my .243 win loads

65 gr ESP Raptor Cutting Edge Bullets -40 gr Varget -coyote

77 gr MTH Cutting Edge Bullets 40gr H4350 -coyote/deer

88 gr MTH Cutting Edge Bullets 40gr H4350 -deer

100 gr Sierra Sptz 37.5 gr H4350 - deer

My gun shoots the 70NBT's great with about 48.1 of Reloder 19 and CCI BR-2's seated fairly short... 2.630" OAL, something like that. This only drives them about 3,250fps out of my Tikka T3 Lite, but accuracy trumps speed. I shot a lot of Varget with the 70's before I decided to switch powders and found this one then. My 22-250 LOVES Varget, my 243win - not so much. IMR-4350 and RL19, and even H4831sc with the heavier bullets seem to be the better bet in mine at least.

looking at the op's post i would echo earlier remarks use what you have the most of.
Varget great choice, I like 4895 as well.

I reload .243 for a buddy and his rifle seems to like rl19
