Well, I'm laying in the hospital bed bored as can be. My buddy accidentally shot me in the back of the calf tonight before we went out.

I'm not super sure what happened, I was outside and the blast came through the bottom of the cheap door. I didnt take too many notes or ask many questions after the fact but I remember hearing him run through the semiauto action a few times before it went off, he doesnt know how it ended up loaded and it was a gun borrowed from another buddy.

A few pellets exited and a few can be seen just under the skin on the front of my leg.

Be fricken safe out there, and if you've seen a guy accidentally shoot his own truck and outdoor air conditioning unit it is not safe to be out hunting with them even if it is your best friend and only hunting partner.

Ouch! Yeah I'd be making him carry a single shot from now on and he'd have to carry the bullets in his pocket. I know how that gun got loaded....He loaded it.lol

Glad it wasn't worse than it was. Doesn't look fun.

Sound like the leg is doing pretty good but I showed up late Sunday night so I still havent heard from the specialists about xrays and CT scans. I felt bad for the lady emptying my urinal so when the nurses werent looking I hobbled over to the toilet and holy man, soon as I got back into bed I asked for pain meds for the first time and I went back to peeing in the bottle.

Good to hear that the leg is doing good. Hopefully the pain drops soon and you can get to moving around on it more. I had a horse wreck that busted me up some a while back. The pain meds helped for a while but then it got to where I thought they messed with my system and head worse than they worth for the pain so I quit them after a couple days. Keep us posted on the recovery.

oouch. i still have a few pellets in my right leg from a hunting deal years ago. that guy was never asked to go with us again.

glad it wasn't way worse for you man.

Thank you for posting this as a reminder to us all that it only takes one careless moment to end in tragedy. Get well soon!

Case in point. Several years ago, my best friend, with whom I have hunted and fished all my life, had just exited the jeep and was following, about 10' behind me, on a trail through the brush when his .243 pre 64 Mod. 70 discharged! Fortunately it was pointed downward and impacted the trail about 5-6' behind me!

He had no idea what "triggered" the AD. As it turned out, the rifle had been purchased 2nd hand years ago, and someone had done a shade tree trigger job on it, screwing up the angles on the sear. He had hunted that rifle for years w/o issue, but..................

It's the buts that can jump up and bite ya. I had reminded him several times over the years to lift his bolt as a 2nd safety measure any time he had a round chambered until on stand, but have not had to remind him since.

Good reminders to be careful out there!

Prayers for a full & speedy recovery.

Regards,
hm

Wow, what a sobering safety reminder. Glad you are okay and will recover. You are lucky he was not closer to you when it happened. Thanks for sharing.

Next time you hear that steel shot can't penetrate worth a crap, you should disagree. Looks like it did a fine job to me. And that's after going through a door.....

Glad you're okay! Some don't understand why I am so strict on safeties on and muzzle control (the latter being the most important!).
