Ruger No1 Scope Mounting

Gents ,
I'm not sure how many of my fellow hunters on PM use or shoot a No1 but I need some help with a scope mount .
I bought Ruger extended rings , mounted a VX3 3.5X10X40 and I have to climb up the stock to get ER ( eye relief ) for anything other than 3.5X . I plan on using this rifle,.243 win. , for coyote and groundhog hunting .
Any positive suggestions or help anyone can pass my way . I don't read a lot about this issue , so what's my problem ??

This is what I’m running on mine. Extended rear ring with regular medium front. Scope is older VXII 4-12. Works good for me, but everyone has their own requirements.

I just use the regular Ruger rings. have the same scope on mine.

Is the scope as far back as it can go? How tall are you?

Scope is back to the iron , on extended rings .
I'm 5'11" 217.5 yesterday am . Scope is a Leupold 3.5X10X40
Rifle is a No. 1a

Can you put the extension ring on the front mount. This would allow you to lie the scope more to the rear.

I used an EGW rail with Burris signature rings on a no.1 varmint(22-250). Only way to not use a bunch of the scopes left windage at 100 yards, the ring inserts saved 9 moa of adjustment.
