Boretech and Montana xtreme

I have been using mpro7 for all my cleaning needs the last 10 years or so. I am no longer able to get it where I live. I am now looking at either boretech eliminator or separate boretech c4 and cu+2 along with there oil or Montana xtreme bore solvent and copper killer along with the bore conditioner. Has anyone tried these and what are your thoughts. I shoot allot of pistol 9 mm and 45 acp along with allot of 223 and some 243. Shotgun is also becoming more so with my son shooting more trap.

I like to use the Extreme after using Hoppes and or Remington 40x.
The Extreme has a strong odor but tells me when copper is present by the bright blue color on the patch.
Nothing better than seeing a white patch come out.

I use the Boretech, eliminator and c4. Honestly most of my rifles aren't copper mines so I use the c4 the most. A few wet patches, then brush, more patches and maybe brush again if it looks like it's needed. The bore-cam tells all. And it doesn't stink, and is safe to leave in the bore. No more ammonia based stuff for me.

I use the Montana Extreme bore cleaner to brush with, and you can let it sit in the barrel over night if you are a soaker.

I like the Montana Extreme Copper killer for getting the copper out right now, and it is a rough barrel that needs two 15 minute applications.

For rough carbon fouling, using a Montana Extreme Plastic brush and their Copper Cream, seems to be pure magic in getting neglected barrels clean, this product is equal to JB, just easier to use.

Note: if you push a couple of patches of any kind of penetrating oil through your barrel when shooting at the rifle range, barrel are easier to clean later on. Free All is the best penetrating oil I have ever found.

A while back folks were raving about Tactical Advantage, so I bought a bottle. Seems to work good but I can't say its the best. I've tried a lot of different cleaners and seems they all work pretty good. I still think elbow grease is the best cleaner. Patchs and a good brush seem to work best.

Works especially well if barrel still warm/hot. That was always the first job after coming off the 600 firing line on match days, having fired 58 or 88 rounds. Thanks for the reminder, Keith, kinda got out of the habit since current range sessions normally result in far less rounds fired.

^^^^A good stiff brush really does shorten cleaning chores!
Good barrels are easy to keep clean. Factory barrels, not so much; doesn't take many rounds to start mining copper from them. I like to keep it simple and Tactical Advantage is the best I've found as a lone copper/carbon removal product.

BAR .308 barrel after just 29 rounds:

Did not take "before" pictures after range session Friday during which 55 rounds were fired then 8-10 passes with Iosso blue brush soaked w/TA made and let sit for about 4 hours. Traces of copper visible @ crown, so repeated above and let soak overnight. All copper gone w/only traces of carbon left. L-R from throat:

Thorough inspection w/scope found one small trace of copper near muzzle that was removed with a half dozen strokes w/worn-out brush in that area and an hour soak.

Some of the other bore cleaners may be a bit more aggressive/efficient, especially in concert with another solvent, but TA does it all very well.

Ok so here is my dilemma. So I really want to try Montana Xtreme but my workshop is in my basement with no windows I can open. Also my cleaning and firearms room at work has the same issue. So how bad is Montana Xtreme for smell. Is it way too strong to use without ventilation that I need to go with Bore Tech which is fine or will I be ok. I currently use Hoppes, Butch's Bore Shine and Mpro 7. Butch's which is the strongest smelling. Is it similar to Butches or is it worse than Butch's

Montana Xtreme copper killer does have a very strong smell. I’ve been using it for about 5 years and only use it outside. You might be ok with using it in an unvented basement but I wouldn’t.

Well I got bore tech with bore tech rod. I’m very impressed with it all. I cleaned my m16 for work with m pro 7 and butch’s bore shine. When using mpro7 I used the copper remover also. The patches were coming out white. Then I cleaned with bore tech and wow patches were deep blue. The rod is amazing also.
