Covid Shot Info

My sister and brother-in-law got the vaccine (Moderna)last week in Florida. Both said they had virtually no side effects. One had a sore arm, like getting a flu shot. Nearly a week later both are doing fine.
Relatives in New York State are still unable to get the vaccine. Both are elderly with serious medical conditions. Folks in N.Y. are irate that Andrew Cuomo's rollout of the vaccine is a total disaster. The website has been crashing all week and is directing people to call the Covid hotline. The hotline has a recording which tells you they can't handle the call volume so go to the website. People are being put on waiting lists that extend 3-6 months. Insanity that only residents of a Blue State can know.

Got the first round of Moderna Dec 23rd. Like someone above said, arm was warm, hard and pretty sore a few hours later. No other symptoms, didn't notice it the next day. A few people at work said the could barely lift their arm the next day. Getting round two the 24th. Wife told me yesterday she knew several who had decent fever and felt like crap after the second go round. I had to do 30 minute observation instead of 15, due have having a severe reaction to ANY inoculation or injection in the past.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 15,2021

Statement from NYGOP Chairman Nick Langworthy on Andrew Cuomo’s Continuously Disastrous Vaccine Distribution

January 15, 2021

“Andrew Cuomo’s disastrous bungling of New York's vaccine distribution is an outrage. Every day that goes by, there is a new horrifying development of mismanagement and incompetence, which is hardly a surprise given the governor and his taxpayer-funded staff are spending all their time giving speeches and tweeting political attacks. ‘Blame Me, Blame Me,' cried Cuomo as he took total control. Well, we do. This is a crisis of unprecedented proportions and it needs to be fixed immediately before another New Yorker unnecessarily loses their life at the hands of his incompetence.”

Right now just having the vaccine is the problem.

500PM NBC news opened with Joe saying that there are millions of doses in freezers all over the country & the states aren't doing enough to get people stuck. He expects to incect 100 million doses in his 1st 100 days, for a 1 million per day average.

The top doc for covid in AL did an interview & explained that we just can't get enough & in fact are 239,000 doses behind what we were told we'd have by now. They can't inject people with a vaccine they don't have.

Then Lester Holt came on & his segment was nothing but governors all over the country stating that there are no doses held in reserve. They just can't get them. They're worried that people who got the 1st shot won't be able to get the 2nd since they just don't have them.

Maybe someone should tell Joe...

No, didn't hurt his shoulder. After work on wed he got a covid shot. It hurt some, no more than expected. During the evening it hurt more.

During the night it hurt more, woke him up several times.

When he got up in the morning he couldn't move his arm.

"You couldn't move it or it hurt too much to move?"

Couldn't move it. Totally dead from the shoulder to finger tips. He went & got checked out. They told him it was an allergic reaction that caused the muscles in the arm to seize up. Should clear up in time.

This is a new one on me, I've heard of some reactions but not like this.

They talked about the vaccine a bit, he said there was a lengthy list of stuff that if you have, you shouldn't get the shot.

Any allergies
Obese
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Any history of head injury
Any breathing problems (including asthma)
and more.

That list is going to preclude a lot of people from getting the shot who at higher risk & should get it.

I don't know which vaccine it was, phizer or moderna but I think so far those are the only ones that have come into the state so far.

The mRNA vaccine is very safe. This is why they had Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 trials with thousands of volunteers and it was a double blind study where the people giving the vaccine didn't know if it was the real vaccine or a blank. And they only get the results at the end of the study which lasted for several months. Very few people get a reaction from either vaccine. Some had had reactions to some of the blanks that didn't contain any of the mRNA parts of the vaccine and that was because they were allergic to some of the liquids used to make the vaccine. This is true with the regular flu shot as well. I had a bad reaction to the flu shot back in 2018. It took almost a year for my arm to get back to normal. I had pain in the left arm for over a year. It's finally resolved itself now. I got a flu shot every year since. And I never got the flu or got sick. 95% of the people who get the vaccine don't have a problem other than a little redness at the site of the shot. So why are you making a thread and telling people about one person who had a sore arm for a while? Are you trying to scare people so that they don't get the vaccine? I'm just wondering what your angle is. Many on the far right that listen to Trump and Dr. Atlas and Peter Navaro try to scare people into not getting the vaccine. And all three of those idiots told people to not wear a mask and went around the WH spreading the virus to everyone they came into contact with, including many in the Secret Service. So I would encourage people to get vaccinated with either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccines as soon as possible. Trump lied to you and called the Virus a hoax but Trump knew all along that the virus was highly contagious and dangerous to many people. 360,000 + people have already died in the USA. And there are small children who got the virus and didn't know they had it until they had multiple organ failures (MIS-C) Look it up. Millions have been infected with the SARS CoV2 virus already all over the world.

The monoclonal antibody shot is a little different than the vaccine's that are now being given. First off you have to be tested positive to covid-19 and have it administered early on. Here is the big difference, It is a hour long infusion by IV plus the time in hospital since most Dr's and Clinic's aren't able to meet the time and space requirements. But it seems to work good if administered early on.

We can't get the vaccine in Va. UNLESS...you're "special". My parents, both white republicans and in their upper 80's could not even get an estimated date so they finally called North Carolina and within 1 week got their first round and an appointment for round 2. My wife and I qualify for phase 1, round 2, whatever that means, and we can't get an appointment anywhere. The State Health Dept. phone line gives a recording saying that due to the number of calls they are overwhelmed and can't respond to calls.
Our Democratic Governor and our Legislators got theirs (They're "special") and as far as I can tell that is the end of the Covid vaccine problem for them now.

None of our doctors have received the vaccine but we were able to get my wife a voucher at a county clinic. I had a 1:45 appointment to take my first round on last Friday at the VA @ 1:45. Unfortunately, the clinic was same day and they administered 6000 doses, first come, first serve.

Figuring I could call and cancel my appointment and re-schecule if necessary, we got in line @ 0730 for hers, according to my GPS, 1.6 miles from the facility. I have to say, the county did a good job of feeding lines coming from two directions into the parking lot at a rate of .1 miles/5 minutes. There were 3 lots, taken in order and we exited the grounds (at 1PM) 5.5 hours after getting in line, including the 15 minute observation after she received the shot.

That gave me about 15 minutes to spare to get to the VA in another city and they did great. I had a 30 minute observation period (due to a previous reaction to a flu shot) and was out by 4 or so. Long day, but IMO, time well spent.

We both received the Moderna vaccine and the only reaction was slight soreness and a tad feverish @ site of injection. Have heard some say 2nd shot is a bit rougher with either vaccine. We'll see.

Received an email from VA today w/following article attached:

The VA Has Now Administered More COVID-19 Vaccine Shots Than 42 US States

2 Feb 2021
Military.com | By Patricia Kime

Across the entire U.S., roughly 32 million vaccine shots had been administered as of Feb. 1, according to New York Times compilations. The VA's million-shot milestone puts it ahead of states including North Carolina, New Jersey and Washington; it has administered more vaccine doses than the states of Oregon and Louisiana combined. Only eight U.S. states have administered more vaccine doses to date. On Tuesday, the state of Illinois, which has a population of 12.67 million according to the last census, also administered its millionth vaccine dose.

As of late January, the VA was in "Phase 1B" for administering COVID-19 vaccinations to veterans, including those who are 75 years of age or older, serve as essential workers, have an underlying health condition requiring chemotherapy or dialysis, or are organ transplant recipients.

Stone said the vaccine has proven to be safe for the VA's vulnerable patient population: The department has recorded adverse reactions in fewer than 30 patients who received the vaccine -- mainly fainting or a rapid heart rate, and zero hospitalizations.

2nd shot for my diver friend who got sick from the first one last month:

Since I am fairly certain I will survive it at this point, let me tell you about my second Covid vaccination.

First the info I provided should not be used to persuade you from getting or not getting the shot. That decision should be based on you and your families needs. I’m potentially exposed every day at work so for the safety on my family, I got the shots. If you choose not to or you feel it’s conspiracy of some sort then don’t get it.

So I was told to plan on taking two days off after the second shot when I got my first vaccine about 3 weeks ago, and I had heard that those who had COVID (I had it bad in June of 2020) had a bad reaction after the first shot but very little reaction on the second shot. So I have to admit that I was very apprehensive about getting the second shot and even considered skipping it. But in the end I put on my big boy panties and got it.

Here’s the play by play:

Monday 1:00PM Second dose of Modena

Administered into left arm, (first dose was in right arm). When and had lunch and worked the rest of day and felt fine. In fact painted the laundry room Monday evening.
About 9PM started to notice I was feeling a bit nauseous. Not like run to the toilet but maybe Taco Bell revenge rolling through. Kind of a warning to not stray to far from the toilet.

By 10PM I was starting to notice my right arm hurt, and my left arm at the injection site was tight as [beeep], and it hurt to raise either arm and now the headache that won’t go away has returned as I write this I still have a headache..

Decided to take a Motrin. Remember as a Covid survivor I was only supposed to have mild symptoms on dose 2.

11PM shivering began, uncontrolled shivering. I had no control over my body more like convulsions than shivering. Took 2 Tylenol , went to bed.

11-1am More shivering followed by profuse sweating. May be because I was running a fever of 102.5 or because I had on 2 sweaters and 3 covers. Either way the swing from cold to hot let me know in my mind the Tylenol was working.

1:30am Finally decided to take off sweaters and blankets. Felt good, fell right to sleep.

2:15am Felt shivers starting again in my stomach almost like cramp but I knew what was coming so I got up and took 2 more Tylenol.

3am: massive shivering is back, put sweater back on and blankets. An hour later sweating.

This cycle repeated itself all night.

7am Tuesday: Up for work. Headed to site and FedEx. Parts were delayed at FedEx so went to next site. Was turned away at door with 102.5 fever, they let me in when I told them it was vaccine induced.

10am: took Aspirin again but late now the chills are back. Tried to focus on keeping ahead of the cycle but missed it due to work challenges.

1230pm Decided around noon and with FedEx parts being delayed that I would just go home and hydrate and rest. Made soup and drank a gallon of fluids.

2:00PM laid down and fell right to sleep. But woke (thank god) with diarrhea (Not thank god).

3:00pm took another 2 Tylenol, and sat to watch some TV fell asleep after about an hour

4:30pm drank some more fluids and ate a light snack. Feeling fairly good now.

8:00PM started feeling the chills in my stomach again so I took 2 Tylenol. Went to bed.

1am Woke Up with shivering starting couldn’t get warm again. Took 2 Tylenol. Went back to bed. Struggled for about an hourly to get chills under control and to fall asleep.

7am Wednesday. Up for work. Took 2 Tylenol.

Feel about 80%. But still Fatigued.

3Pm As I’m writing this I’m feeling good not 100% but maybe 90%. Couldn’t eat very much at lunch and Except for a slight headache everything else is good.

I've spoken directly with seven friends and family in three different states that received the Moderna vaccine. Three had minor reactions the rest had a sore arm. All are in their 70's and 80's.

Man, he really had a rough time of it. Seems that reactions vary a lot from one person to another. Hope he has the worst behind him.

Deaths of Elderly Who Recovered From COVID-19, but Died After Vaccine, Raise Questions

February 10, 2021 Updated: February 10, 2021

Two small clusters of deaths after COVID-19 vaccination have been reported among nursing homes in Kentucky and Arkansas.

In Kentucky, four seniors died the same day of their vaccination on Dec. 30, 2020. Three of the four who passed away reportedly already had had coronavirus prior to getting vaccinated.

In Arkansas, four seniors died at a long term care facility about a week after their vaccination. All tested positive for COVID-19 after vaccination.

The deaths are reported in a federal database called VAERS, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

Deaths after vaccination don’t necessarily mean the vaccine is to blame. Of those receiving coronavirus vaccines, many are elderly and frail, or already suffering from serious illnesses. That makes it difficult to know whether there’s a connection.

Kentucky Nursing Home Deaths

According to VAERS reports, the Kentucky deaths occurred on Dec. 30 after vaccinations with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. An ill 88-year-old woman who was “14 + days post covid” was given the Pfizer-BioNTech shot while she was “unresponsive in [her] room.” She died within an hour and a half (914961-1). An 88-year-old who was “15 days post covid” got the shot, was monitored for 15 minutes afterward, and passed away within 90 minutes (914994-1). A third report says an 88-year-old woman who was “14 + days post covid” vomited four minutes after receiving her shot, became short of breath, and passed away that night (915562-1). And an 85-year-old woman vaccinated at 5 p.m. was “found unresponsive” less than two hours later and died shortly after (915682-1).

In response to questions about the Kentucky cluster, a spokesman for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said its experts noted “no pattern … among the [Kentucky] cases that would indicate a concern for the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

Scientists differ on whether people who have had coronavirus, like the Kentucky patients, should receive the COVID-19 vaccination at all. The CDC insists it’s safe for people who have recovered from COVID-19 to get vaccinated and that there’s no minimum interval recommended between infection and vaccination.

“Vaccination should be offered to persons regardless of history of prior symptomatic or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 [the virus that causes COVID-19] infection,” it states.

But other scientists say vaccinating people who are already considered immune after a natural COVID-19 infection wastes valuable doses of vaccines when there are shortages. And neither Pfizer’s nor Moderna’s studies showed any benefit to vaccinating previously infected patients.

The Kentucky patients were vaccinated shortly after the CDC disseminated false information on this point. The CDC claimed studies showed that vaccines are effective for people who have had COVID-19. The disinformation was given on the agency’s website, in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and in a webinar instruction to medical professionals.

In the webinar, the CDC’s Dr. Sarah Oliver falsely stated, “Data from both clinical trials suggests that people with prior infection are still likely to benefit from vaccination.”

Under pressure from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who first flagged the CDC’s incorrect information in December, the agency recently issued a correction but used wording that still falsely implies studies showed that the vaccines helped people previously infected with COVID-19.

Meantime, preliminary results from a study co-authored by a team of more than two dozen researchers noted that people infected with COVID-19 in the past “experience systemic side effects with a significantly higher frequency” after vaccination than others.

The CDC confirms that it’s monitoring reports that people who’ve already had COVID-19 seem to be suffering significantly more frequent or more severe reactions after vaccination, or “reactogenicity,” than those who didn’t have COVID-19.

“CDC is aware of reports of increased reactogenicity (such as fever, chills, and muscle aches) in persons who have had COVID-19,” said a spokesman.

Arkansas Nursing Home Deaths

Four nursing home deaths in Arkansas occurred after vaccination with the Moderna-manufactured vaccine. All four patients tested positive for COVID-19 after vaccination, according to the VAERS reports. But there’s no indication as to whether they had coronavirus at the time of their vaccination or acquired it after their shot.

A 65-year-old man (921547-1) who received the Moderna vaccine on Jan. 2, 2021, died two days later, with the VAERS report noting that he had COVID-19. Three other Arkansas seniors died about a week after receiving the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 22, 2020. The person reporting the death of an 82-year-old man (917117-1) six days after his shot said he was vaccinated in an attempt to “mitigate his risk” and that “this was unsuccessful and [the] patient died.” The VAERS report notes, “After vaccination, patient tested positive for COVID-19.”

Two elderly women, ages 90 (917790-1) and 78 (917793-1), were vaccinated the same day as the 65-year-old man and also tested positive for COVID-19 about a week after their shots and died. According to the unnamed person who reported the 90-year-old’s death, “the vaccine did not have enough time to prevent COVID 19” and “There is no evidence that the vaccination caused patient’s death. It simply didn’t have time to save her life.” The person who reported the 78-year-old’s death claimed she died “as a result of COVID-19 and her underlying health conditions and not as a result of the vaccine.”

In response to questions about the Arkansas cluster, the CDC said, “Surveillance data to date do not indicate excess deaths among elderly patients receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.” Overall, easy the agency, the number of deaths at long term care facilities after COVID-19 vaccinations is no higher than what would be expected to occur naturally.

Frail Patients

Separately, the CDC is monitoring the impact of the vaccines on already-frail patients such as the chronically ill in nursing homes.

In Norway, alarm bells sounded when 23 people died shortly after vaccination. After investigating 13 of the deaths, Norway’s medical agency has concluded side effects that are common with the Pfizer-BioNTech and Modern vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhea, “may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients.”

“There is a possibility that these common adverse reactions, that are not dangerous in fitter, younger patients and are not unusual with vaccines, may aggravate underlying disease in the elderly,” said Steinar Madsen, medical director of the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

A World Health Organization (WHO) expert panel disagrees. It says the deaths “are in line with the expected, all-cause mortality rates and causes of death in the sub-population of frail, elderly individuals, and the available information does not confirm a contributory role for the vaccine in the reported fatal events.”

But one unanswered question is whether patients who are both frail and have already had COVID-19 might suffer a double-whammy that puts them at greater risk when vaccinated. First, those with a previous COVID-19 infection might be more likely to suffer adverse events upon vaccination, according to scientific reports. Second, their frailty may make them less able to handle the adverse events, as Norway’s medical agency found with some patients.

In the United States, VAERS reports contain numerous other cases of elderly, frail people who’d had COVID-19, got vaccinated, and died.

A 96-year-old Ohio woman tested positive for COVID-19 in November, got the Pfizer vaccine on Dec. 28, 2020, in a rehab facility after a fall, and died that afternoon (915920-1).

A 94-year-old Michigan man at a senior living facility who had COVID-19 and other illnesses received the Moderna vaccine on Jan. 2, 2021, and died of cardiac arrest two days later (918487-1).

A 91-year-old Michigan woman with Alzheimer’s and other illnesses at a senior living facility who had tested positive for COVID-19 received the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 30, 2020. She died four days later (924186-1).

And an 85-year-old California woman with Alzheimer’s and other disorders at a senior living facility received the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine on Jan. 5, 2021, and was found dead the same day. After her vaccination, an earlier COVID-19 test from Jan. 3 returned positive, though she’d had no symptoms (924456-1).

In other cases, elderly, frail patients tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after vaccination.

A 104-year-old woman in New York received the Pfizer vaccine on Dec. 30, 2020. The next day, a COVID-19 test was done and came back positive. She became ill the following day and died on Jan. 4, 2021 (920832-1).

And a 71-year-old New York man received the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 21, 2020, developed a fever and respiratory distress, and tested positive for COVID-19. He was given Remdesivir. He died after 6 days (922977-1).

A WHO vaccine safety subcommittee reviewed reports of deaths among the frail, elderly after the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The members determined, two weeks ago, there’s no cause for concern. “The benefit-risk balance of [Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine] BNT162b2 remains favorable in the elderly, and does not suggest any revision, at present, to the recommendations around the safety of this vaccine,” said the WHO officials.

Pfizer, Moderna, and CDC Responses

In response to questions for this report, Pfizer issued a statement saying: “We take adverse events that are potentially associated with our COVID-19 vaccine, BNT162b2, very seriously. We closely monitor all such events and collect relevant information to share with global regulatory authorities. Based on ongoing safety reviews performed by Pfizer, BioNTech and health authorities, BNT162b2 retains a positive benefit-risk profile for the prevention of COVID-19 infections.”

Pfizer said that millions of people have been vaccinated and “serious adverse events, including deaths that are unrelated to the vaccine, are unfortunately likely to occur at a similar rate as they would in the general population.”

Pfizer didn’t answer whether it has concluded that any deaths might be linked to vaccination. It also wouldn’t answer whether it has looked at any clusters of deaths, or noted any patterns or areas of concern. And the company wouldn’t say whether it recommends that those recently or currently infected with COVID-19 get vaccinated.

Moderna didn’t answer our questions or request for information and comment.

Currently, the CDC recommends vaccination for people who’ve already had coronavirus.

The agency didn’t directly answer the question of whether it’s safe for people to get vaccinated while they have an active COVID-19 infection. A CDC spokesman said that deferring vaccination is recommended in those instances, but didn’t say whether it was due to a safety issue.

“Vaccination of persons with known current SARS-CoV-2 infection should be deferred until the person has recovered from the acute illness (if the person had symptoms) and criteria have been met for them to discontinue isolation,” says the CDC. “This recommendation applies to persons who develop SARS-CoV-2 infection before receiving any vaccine doses as well as those who develop SARS-CoV-2 infection after the first dose but before receipt of the second dose.”

The good news so far is that most people don't have reactions as bad as my friend did. The bad news is, some do. At least one other diver posted that they had the same response that he did.

But most people are having pretty minor reactions.

Absolutely. As your diver friend said, each of us must make the choice based on their own personal conditions/situation.

Stay informed and choose what's best for you.

I just got on a list to be notified when a vaccine is available, so maybe at some point I'll get stuck.

I'm on a waiting list to be told when I get put on another waiting list...

Congratulations. Hope all goes as well for you as our first one did. We were really fortunate to get in as early as we did.

Been trying to get an appointment for a friend & his wife all last week. Spent most of several days on computer to no avail.

Been well over 2 hours, so far ok. Small spot at the injection site, no soreness or any other reaction yet.

I asked, they typically do 600 per day during the week but today expected to do about 2000

I got the first shot yesterday (moderna) and so far I have had absolutely no soreness at all as of now it has been 28 hours hope it stays that way.........trapperdoc
