The Boy and I went Swanen today. Had to do it fast the water is freezing out from under us. It has been 15* for 5 days and 14" of snow with a forecast of another foot and -2*.
The Goose hotline said there were 4000 swans in our area, but freezing fast.
We found open water and it was covered with swans and duck of all kinds.
It was a rough trip 40 mph wind blinding snow and around 5* drifty and very dark at 5 AM.
The lake was quite low with 100 yards of open lake bed to the water.
FUN times.
The wind kept the ducks flying a few hundred swans steadily arriving to rest.

Kept us busy, to say the least.
Had some luck with the swans, a few flew close enough to drop out two, a Trumpeter and a tundra. and each got a limit in asst ducks.
Home by 1 PM.
HUMMM good day .

You're the first person I've ever seen to shoot one, they look heavy.
I did know a guy that wanted to shoot a pet one after it put him in the hospital by flogging him with it's wings and pinching.

Jetman, great hunt. Is the sub-adult the trumpeter? I think I can see a bit of yellow behind a concave bill on the adult(tundra). Trying to remember my bird ID from college.

The bright white one is the tundra adult.
My son had a tag too he got the sub-adult, the gray looking one it is a Trumpeter.

PS a few years ago we both got Trumpitors Both full grown.
One was 79" wingspread but the one my boy got was 85" wingspan.
BIG birds.
