Savage model 10 predator 22-250

Since I cannot find varget powder anywhere I’m lookin for some loads with other powders for a savage model 10 predator 22-250 with a 1 in 12 twist. Bullet weights between 50-55grain

There are any number of reliable sources of data with many different powders and bullets.

A few bullets that work for me are 52gr Speer FB HP's a reliable coyote killer that has been around a long time, 55gr Sierra SP's, 50gr NBT's and 55gr V-max. Powders, Reloader 15, 4320, 4895, H-380 have all produced small groups. I'm pretty old school, why fix what works.

Lots of newer powders on the market Most powder companies have tested data available on line. I keep a half dozen up to date reloading manuals on my bench for references.

I dream of a 22-250. I don't have one. But... In 223REM, R15 and Varget are eerily similar. I feel confident in saying that if you are getting best accuracy with Varget, R-15 would be a dang good substitute.

IMR 4320 was the original powder for the 22-250. It still works very good to this date. I'm sure others are a little faster. Very close to the IMR 4064, I use both powders since I got the IMR 4320 on a sale for $11.00 a pound. Bought 10 lbs. so I'm good for awhile. My favorite load with IMR 4320 produced Micky mouse face (all touching) at 200 yards using 40 gr Nosler black tips. P.D. round.

Reloader 15 has also been my favorite for the 52 Speer HP. I used that combo for about 12 yrs.

I also used reloader15 with 150gr Ballistic Tip's slugs in the '06 and had really good luck with that combo also.

But in the last 8 yrs of my hunting, I moved up to the 55 V-max and used H4895, good speed with that powder..

I have the exact same gun. I will try to look back over some of my targets when I get home and give you some ideas of what has worked for me. Stay tuned...

50 NBT's again
CCI BR-2 primers
2.350" OAL
Lapua brass
this one showed promise, but didn't fool around too much with Benchmark powder in my 22-250, in the 204 ruger Benchmark is THE powder as far as I'm concerned. But my 22-250 likes Varget probably better than anything so that is what I feed it now. I would try these loads above in the order I've listed them. Then, if you can get any Varget powder ever, wrap back and I will give you the details but 35.9 of Varget under a Sierra 55BK at 3,725 is nice, 36.5 under a 55 V-MAX is what I am shooting currently. (My Savage Model 10 Predator Hunter Max 1 LOVED Hornady custom ammo 55 V-MAX's from the Day 1 as I was first doing barrel break-in with these, so I knew I would one day have to return to the 55 V-MAX's and sure enough they are SWEET! in my rifle. But if you want super explosive and a better BC, go with the 55 Blitzkings and don't look back. I didn't find that the 50BK's did terrible damage, but the 55BK's on a ground-hog within say 50 or 75 yards, destroys them!)

Good shooting to you.
