Sierra 60gr TMK in .223 Rem

Hi folks,

Anyone had any good results with the 60gr TMK in a .223 Rem (Particularly with Ramshot TAC?)

My rifle is a 22" bbl CZ527 with a 1:9 twist.

I'm looking for a load to plink steel with out to 600 (I suspect that the 69gr TMK might be a bit much for the barrel)

All advice gratefully recieved!

The 60gr TMK and the 69gr HPBT are almost identical in length. You will be good to go with either in a 9 twister.

I have not been able to get the 60gr TMK's to shoot as of yet. I worked on them for a bit, but changed projects.

I am limited to magazine length.

If it where me.... I would start out with the 69's first.

Then when you have your load, you could then try the 60's

You likely won't have troubles tuning the 69's?

A strong load of W748 with WW primers works great. As does H4895, Varget, RL15 and many more.

I figured the 60gr TMK would make a great, accurate coyote round. I only worked up a load in one rifle (1:9) . It did not like W748 and H335 but sorta liked 23.5gr Benchmark with 1 MOA 5 shot groups@100. Since the 60gr V-max and 55gr Nosler BT out shoot it I will not be getting any more. I also use the Sierra 53gr SMK and it is consistently accurate in every rifle I've used it in.

I love either of those 2 bullets for coyotes. Started with the 69 TMK out of a 26"barrelled AR 223AI, and killed out to 500ish with it, then the 60 this last couple years and it's my favorite std. magazine length coyote bullet I've used so far. Killed one last season at 475 head shot with that setup.

As another good, high BC, bullet to try maybe give the 53gr Vmax a go. The BC of the 53gr Vmax isn't much less than the 60gr TMK and it'll shoot a bit faster.

I've shot the 53gr Vmax, with very good results, from my 9tw 223's and 223AI.

The 52 and 53gr SMK's always shoot extremely well, too, but the 53 Vmax has a much better BC.

How much wind do you get at your range in the UK ? At 600 yds., any wind will blow that pill around. I’d recommend 68, 69 or even 75 out of a 1:9 twist rifle to push that far. My AR with that twist will handle those weights.

I shoot the Sierra 60 gr TMK's in My Savage 10 Predator with 1/9 twist. Loaded with 24 gr IMR4895
and seated .010 off I shoot sub 1/2 MOA pretty regular. This and the Berger 70 gr VLD shoots very well also.

My REM 700 22" barrel with 1/9 twist shoots the 60gr TMK under .500".

I had great luck with REM 7 1/2 primers with either H4895 or Varget.

Scumbag, I use Hornady 68 Match and Hornady 70 Vmax over N133, with my Rem 700 SPS 20" 1:9 twist, both shoot sub .75 at 100 yards and I ring steel 10 of 10 at 350 yards.

Point being 1:9 will handle 70 grain bullets just fine.

Can't speak to your choice of powder I have never used it.
