No more hunting contests in CO.

Man isn't that a kick in the TEETH-----A Bunch of GOOF-BALLS running Wildlife Management in this Country Now DAYS---

They passed this chit in CA and we just ignore it. Along with the lead ammo ban and the bobcat hunting ban. There comes a time when enough is enough...

I wrote an Email to the commissioners against the ban, lotta good that did.

But I just read that article in the link and the last paragraph raises concerns:

Aubyn Royall, Colorado state director for the Humane Society of the United States, said in a news release, “Participants of wildlife killing contests often use unsporting and cruel techniques — such as calling devices that mimic the sound of prey or even pups in distress — so that they can lure shy coyotes to shoot at close range. We thank Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the (c)ommission for taking decisive action to ensure that Colorado no longer supports such barbaric and wasteful killing of its treasured wildlife.”

In other words, now that we got the contests banned, the dirty rotten hunters that use calls to call animals in are next on the list to go after..

In other words, it's not just about ending contests, it is indeed one chip off the block at a time. Next step, go after and try to end the use of calls, electronic or not. They hate us all, for hunting and they will simply divide and conquer.

Back in the mid-90's, I was with the Colorado Bowhunters Association, and had occasion to speak with the Colorado Wildlife guys about political things.

We were getting a ballot measure for the upcoming State election, to ban most types of trapping and banning spring bear hunting.

While speaking to a Division of Wildlife guy about this, he told me we were going to lose on these measures. When I asked why he was so confident he said that "less than 30% of Colorado licensed hunters are even registered to vote". Guess what? We lost!

If our side isn't registered to vote, we will lose any ballot measure that pertains to hunting.

So, if you are not, get registered. And get your buddies to register. Then, get out and VOTE!

Getting out to vote is good, BUT this "no hunting contests" was just passed without a vote to the general population. CDOW just decided it was time to end contests, along with some pressure from outside interest groups. Only three of the commissioners voted against the measure to end the contests.

They don't fear you if you don't vote!

I think it's a domino effect. Conservatives/hunters don't vote, so we get a more Left government, the more Left government installs more Lefty Wildlife employees and Commissioners, and on, and on, and on.

Since 1974, Colorado has had 1 (one) Republican Governor, Bill Owens. He won his first term by less than 6,000 votes if I recall, out of just over 1,000,000 cast.

As you can see, every vote counts. So, once again, please register to vote and then VOTE.

Watch California for future events in Colorado.

What the Lefties seem to do is, pick on small constituent groups, and go after them. Trapping, spring bear hunting, lion hunting, using lead shot/bullets in a 'Condor zone', etc.

I spoke with other hunters about the spring bear hunt/trapping issues, and several said "I don't trap" or " I don't hunt spring bear" so it doesn't affect "me". If a fellow hunter doesn't care enough, why should a non hunter?

I'm a non-smoker, never have been, but, I called my State representatives about the proposed smoking ban in restaurants/public places. I told them do not pass this bill.

Everybody is so worried about the President Office, but we sometimes forget it's the local politician that imposes most of the rules that affect me.

How many of us know who our local City Councilman is?

Off my soapbox, lol.

At some point, you have to accept the fact that you are an outlaw.

Kali lead ban

I have hunted jackrabbits with my AR15 every spring for 20 years. I typically walk 5 miles through the desert busting jacks. I shoot them on the run. I shoot them 100-200 yards away standing still. I fire 60-100 rounds per trip. There is no way a person can afford to do this with copper ammo.

Life is short. I still hunt jackrabbits.

Follow the laws you agree with.

Could not agree more to this post.

For the most part federal government laws do not affect our day to day that much. In my profession the Obama presidency affected our work due to many of the restrictions imposed. Having a republican house and senate helped balance the laws created. The trump administration helped our company with much more booming business. Personally (until lately) helped with 401K and investments but did not really affect me much.

State and local laws are the ones that affect us the most, get out and vote and take care of the small communities many of us live in.

As far as hunting, all hunters need to stick together. Whether you trap, call, chase bears, hunt contests or not; losing any of these rights slowly chips away at our freedoms as sportsman. Big city governments are telling rural communities how to live with no real knowledge of what actually goes on.

I also agree, everyone on this site is an "outlaw" to some extent. Laws are rarely retracted, but new laws are always being implemented! Our founding fathers were all outlaws and stood up for what they believed. Look at what happened to gun bans in Canada last week...

Stay United! My 2 cents.

Absolutely! Divide and conquer is typical of the socialist democrat MO, this is just another facet of their final agenda. This pandemic could just be an awakening to the unwashed as to just how much local government can affect our lives, choose carefully, and above all,
Get out the VOTE.

Perfect example of State (and all the way down to many towns) government is taking advantage of the "Never let a crisis go to waste" mentality on the left:

Massachusetts: Federal Judge Orders State to Open Gun Shops

Thursday, May 7, 2020 Massachusetts

Support NRA-ILA

Last week, NRA joined the Gun Owners’ Action League and filed an Amicus Brief in support of federal court action taken in response to Gov. Baker’s decision to close gun shops in Massachusetts. Governor Baker’s administration has used the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to brazenly threaten our Second Amendment rights by failing to designate gun shops as “Essential Businesses.”

Today, U.S. Judge Douglas P. Woodlock issued a preliminary injunction to prevent Massachusetts from enforcing the unlawful order. “We don't surrender our constitutional rights. These plaintiffs have constitutional rights that deserve respect and vindication, and it becomes necessary for a court to do that rather than the executive when the executive declines," said Judge Woodlock.

Judge Woodlock held that Gov. Baker and his administration likely placed an improper burden on the Second Amendment rights of the citizens of Massachusetts by forcing gun shops to close. He ruled that the State must allow gun shops to re-open by noon on Saturday, May 9, 2020, with certain guidelines that will be included in the written order to follow.

This is breaking and developing news, and as more details become available, we will update NRA members further. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org/coronavirus.

Whats worse than hunters that don't vote is the hunters that vote AGAINST other hunters and shooters. I've heard bird hunters rail against hound hunters, even though they use dogs. I attended a hearing on contests last October before they were banned here, and heard several "I'm a hunter, but I don't believe in contests ". There was even a comment about fishing derbeys. We have too many "purists " in our ranks, archers who look down on crossbows, black powder hunters that look down on in-lines. Never mind the c&r fly fishermen that hate anyone that eats a trout. Some are misguided into thinking they have to be reasonable, some are selfish, and some are just plain stupid. Whatever your game is, think of the other guys game, its just as important to him. And NEVER make a negative comment in public that will show a split in our ranks. As a hunter ed instructor we constantly remind the students to say gun or firearm and never weapon, and to respect hunting traditions that may be different in other regions.Sticking together is are only chance.

I think coyote hunting contests are retarded. But, I would not vote or advocate for them to be illegal.

Everything I disagree with doesn’t need to be banned.
