built a fair few larsen traps over my time, they work really well.
traps are easy to move around but the trap springs i cant find here.
so mate started hassling me about building some traps.

we looked at the wire funnel and ladder traps designs.
ladder trap design it was to be.

trap is 5 ft tall 5ft long and 4 ft wide.
trap door to let the terrier in when it gets crowded in there.

i use 2x4s and ripped them down in half.
scrap pieces of plywood was used.
note the design change from the one i set out with a decoy in,wire meshing that wasnt perfect
so i added more plywood to square off the edges and it was the same length as the wire mesh roll.
cost was 38 dollars for the wood and 38 dollars for the roll of mesh 4ft x 50ft.6hrs approx of my time.

one trap went out this morning at a farm, second will go out tomorrow when i find my magpie decoys

lets go to war on magpies!!!!!!!!

EDIT CHECK YOUR LOCAL/FEDERAL LAWS ON TRAPPING MAGPIES
its fine in sask canada

Zre they in the crow family-Cordiavae or something like that??

In this state crows have a season. I bet yours also.

A season on crows here but many don't realize the difference between ravens which are protected.
Magpies are federally protected although a neighbor took some and claimed depredation on fruit.
Buzzards are another federally protected one that can be problems but they can issue a livestock depredation permit in a couple days.

Around here the state DNR guys trap parasitic cowbirds. They are protecting the Kirtland warbler that 90+% of the population has never seen, me included.

The warblers like the 'edge' of 6-15' jackpines to nest in. JPs are planted after a section has been clearcut. Whe have hundreds of jackpines and I dont know how many warblers. I think it is like the wolves in the UP-the 'salvage' goal is reached but the salvation goes on.

I was at a DNR warbler seminar a few yrs ago but never asked what the goal is. I suspect none as there are several DNR emps who wont have a job if the warbler project ever ends.
