What’s a good state to go to for coyote hunting and trout fishing with a monthly income around 3 grand. Don’t mind some cold but would prefer warmer. Have a daughter in Colorado , but that state is starting to scare me. Have a new granddaughter here but this state is worse with no trout fishing though Wisconsin and Iowa aren’t bad. Want a gun friendly state with public land. Any opinions would be very helpful to make this difficult decision. Thanks

Take a look at New Mexico. Lots of public land, good hunting (if you can draw a tag), good fishing for many species, mostly gun friendly, though our majority liberal politicians try to change that every year. Cost of living is decent if you stay away from the typical snowbird areas.

Wyoming can get cold, my daughter is in grand junction which seems more conservative plus I want to be on the west side of the Rockies for the better weather.Seems like housing is expensive though. Anybody have opinions on Montrose co.?

Montrose, Delta, Olathe could be good choices for you. Lot's of trout fishing, very good big game, turkey, coyote, etc., and lot's of public land.

Even some pheasant hunting around there, along with Chukar and Blue Grouse.

Compare the property taxes you currently pay in Il, vs. Montrose/Delta. You might have a pleasant surprise.

I see your from Barlett. I am a 1973 Grad from Barrington HS.

Any other state than Montana.
I just killed the last one...

My daughter has been fishing for a month in Colorado, wouldve been able to go today but no, Wisconsin has a stay at home order. Illinois sucks! Yea I did house payments for 26 years and got divorced 10 years ago and been living with a lady in her house the last 8 so haven’t had a payment in awhile cept for 700.a month help out money. She finally figured out we don’t have much in common ( which I had been telling her for years) so I am free again. My 3rd time at life, want to get it right this time. Just gonna b tough not seeing the granddaughter anytime I want.

I second NM, lots of trout fishing in the northern mountains, good lake fishing in all but the WSW part of the state, lots of public land. Low cost of living, tons of public land and very veteran friendly. Homes in my neighborhood run under 100K. I moved here 2yrs ago in August.

Thats prolly a good idea though with 2 moderators in New Mexico it must have something going for it. Was thinking about Oklahoma also being it’s a very gun friendly state , might have to hear from infidel about that.

Big game hunting in Colorado has been declining for a while. But, hunter numbers are high!

If you are looking for high hunting pressure, Colorado is a good choice.

Trying places before you decide is a great idea. Take your hunting truck and a small travel trailer and check out all the states your interested in.

Set it up with a solar panel, ours has a 100w suitcase panel, my hunting rig has a 100w roof mounted. Which has been plenty if you aren't a power hog. With a set up like that you can camp free just about anywhere, Walmart lots, casinos, truck stops, BLM lands, national forest campground a senior pass is available to cut the fee in half or free in national forest fee sites. We did this for eight years before we bought. My wife would winter in NM and I'd catch up to her after hunting season was over and we'd then slowly work our way back to WA looking everywhere at places to see if we might want to live there.

I'm not a big snow fan, I lived in a remote home in NW MN for 12 years, the first couple years we left out cars on the county road and would snowshoe 3/4 mile to the house with the car batteries on a toboggan. I had a tractor with a front end loader that I couldn't keep the road open. Then I bought a 7' snowblower for it and that work but sometimes it would take four days to get through the drifts. I love to XC skiing but I'll drive to snow now, not live in it.

A little of what it is like on the road out here, this is a story of my travels to the PM convention this year.

Thanks for the ideas, sitting tight for now with my 90 year old parents to try to keep my father to stay home until this blows over. Gonna head to grand Junction as soon as things straighten out and go fishing for a few weeks and c what the housing situation is. I’m a drywall finisher and planned on doing side work to supplement the income till I take my SS. Blew my knee out @25 years ago and as long as I don’t run or do something stupid it leaves me alone, so no deer or elk hunting, coyotes and cats for me. Gotta liquidate and get lean and mean so I can head out.

we moved to So Dakota when we retired, yes it does get a little cold at times but heck if my wife who was born and raised in calif says it is not that bad when I asked her a couple months ago if she wanted to stay or move, she said stay.I researched retirement states and SD is the best when you consider living cost, insurance, gas, truck registration my new truck is 135.00 per year, house rent is low or do like we did 8 acres 3 br 2 bath house,40x60 barn,no neighbor for a mile and my shooting range 700 yards no one around.I watch pheasants and deer every morning out living room window. cost $175.000 we love it here.contact me if you want to.
