.243 twist rate 1:10 or 1:12?

I am building a .243 and wanting to shoot 55-90 grain bullets. I am getting mixed i for on the best twist. It looks like 1:12 is optimum but kinda limiting to the real light stuff where the 1:10 seems like it will also shoot the light stuff well and allow me to also use up to 115. The barrel is a 18" X-Caliber I am leaning towards 1:10.
Does anyone have experience with Xcaliber .243 barrels?

If your going 90 as the heaviest I think a 1-12 would be really nice any heavier then I'd think a 1 in 9 or 10 would be better suited. But I'm not a fan of heavy for caliber bullets.

Dtech suggested 1:12 for 55-90 grain. That's what I went with. If I want heavier, I'll pull out the 6.5 creedmoor or the .308.

Thanks guys. These responses are exactly what I am finding. On paper it seems like 1:12 but real world seems like 1:10 is doing what I am wanting to do I am going to stick with the 1:10 and see what I can do with it. Are u guys using these for coyotes? How do you like em?

I would go with a 10 twist

I have a 16" 1-10", it will not stabilize any factory load over 90gr, the general concession among the group is that the short barrel, slow twist and gas system rob too much velocity from the loads to allow them to stabilize. The 58gr & 75gr Hornady and the Barnes 85gr TTSX shoot tiny little groups.

This is 8 rounds at 100yds of 100gr Hornady, one is off the target

My F-class rifle is 1-10 243win with Lapua 90 grain
Some have gone to 9 1/2 or 9 1/4 twist.
I push mine to the max load. It works.

I have a SD 243 with 1/10 twist it shoots 58 gr bullets perfectly. I haven't tried any heavier bullets yet because its mostly a coyote woodchuck gun and the 58's work so good.

My Remington factory 9 &1/8 twist will shoot 70 grain and 90 grain hand loaded NBT’s all in the same hole off the bench. Never really tested any other bullets out of it accept for some Sierra 90 grain FMJs moving around 2900 FPS that I could cloverleaf with the correct load. My 1 in 9 bear creek arsenal upper I have only tried 55 grain Nosler CT’s . First time out at the range I had six different test loads from the two powders tested that shot .3”’s. Don’t know the factory twist of my 1967 Remington 600 but I tried the 90 grain NBT load out of Remington 700 26” HB rifle that all go in the same hole and it clover leafed the first time I tried it. I think it’s around a 1 in 9 twist? I would assume a 1 in 10 would be my choice between the two. I’m going to order an upper in a 1 in 8 twist and test some 55 grainers out of it . If I want to shoot heavier bullets I have several other larger calibers to do so. I use my 243’s to shoot as fast and as flat as possible to eliminate hold over on coyotes.

My bolt Sako is 1:10 and it shoots everything great esp some old Rem Corelokts 80s. Dont see why an old black dangerous gun would be different??

my custom ruger has a Lilja 1:13 28 1/2 inch 3 grove match barrel in #6 couture. all i shoot are 55 and 70 gr bulets its a real tack driver.
