Anyone getting on the 6mm GT wagon?

I am. Brass and dies showed up today. Barrel should be here soon. Then off to the smith to get chambered and fitted.

223, 6mm GT 70gt BT, 6mm GT, 6mm GT 90eldx, 6.5 creed 143 eldx.

I loaded the 70gr ballistic tip and 90gr eldx so that the bullet base is about to the bottom of the neck.

I have a winchester m70 243 needing a new barrel, so 6mm GT it is.

Looked hard at all the 6mm’s that fit the standard bolt face. From 6mm rem down to 6mm dasher and everything in between.

This seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Good barrel life, good powder selection, good bullet selection(with proper twist), small primer, feeds from a magazine and most importantly for me, no brass forming.

Time will tell...

70gr nosler ballistic tip, 90gr hornady eldx and 90gr Sierra game changer

These dummy rounds all feed and function perfectly as the gun sits.

So the 6mm GT splits the difference between the 6 Dasher and 6x47 Lapua.

It's cool to have something different, but for me, I'd be a hard sell over building a 6x47 or 6mm CM.

I'm sure it will shoot very well though.

Brux 1 in 8 #3 showed up today.

So far I have 4 dummy rounds put together
70gr nosler bt at 2.300”
90gr Sierra game changer at 2.425”
90gr hornady eldx at 2.425”
103 hornady eldx at 2.500”

These OAL’s put the base of the bullet at or just below the shoulder/neck junction

Local gunsmith said he can have it together in 1-2 months.

Let the wait begin...

I’ve called my smith 2 times. It should be done in a week or 2. He’s behind on barrel work due to covid and reloading parts demand. Dale at Little crow gunworks. He makes the worlds finest brass trimmer also.

I’ve got about 120 rounds loaded so far. Varget, H4350 and h4831sc in the cases. Mostly barrel breaking in and some for pressure testing. Left the bullets on most seated long so I can seat accordingly later with rifle in hand.

Heres some of what I’ve got loaded.

Left to right. All with base of bullet at shoulder neck junction.

70gr Nosler bt
90gr Sierra gamechanger
90gr eldx
95gr Barnes lrx
100gr Sierra gamechanger
100gr btsp(barrel break in)
103 eldx

Pdogs, yotes, antelope, whitetail, mule deer.

After running some numbers in hoping it likes the 95 lrx, 100 sgc or 103 eldx.

When I shot out my 40X 243 barrel, I was interested in being able to keep my brass as well as my bullets so I went with another 6MM cartridge the 6 SLR. For me the ability to size the brass I already had was a big draw as was the load compatibility with 243 meant I had a a starting place for several new powders. My gunsmith already had the reamer so I ordered a 6mm Brux barrel from bugholes.com and had my 40x upgraded.

The 6SLR will push the 115s out to 1200 yards with less drift than a 6.5mm 142 grain
In competition people run the 115s as fast as 3200 FPS. I'm only at 3080, but my next load test might find a node over 3100.

I am genuinely curious what the 6GT offers that I might have missed by going with 6SLR.
Good luck with the project and may the accurate loads be easy to find.

Cheers

You guys that have the 6.5 gt probably already know this, but Prime Ammo is now loading this round and has a group buy on it through the need of the week.
