I have a ton of 270 brass once fired and am contemplating on 6.5-06 ai orv even Sherman. Or 270 ai or Sherman. Not interested in 280 Ackley for no good reason.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Standard 6.5-06 huh? For whatever reason if I can't get 3050-3100 with the 143 eldx I'm not interested in the 6.5.

Already have a 6.5 Creedmoor pushing same bullet at 2885fps.I was getting excited about a 26" barreled Ackley improved or Sherman 270 with the 165 matrix or 170 Berger

Whatever you settle on you can bet that somebody else thought of it first.

But yeah- neck it down to .264 and AI it sounds good. Easy too.

6-06 with a fast is another option. Owned one for several years. Very user friendly and a piece of cake to load for. Mine had a Brux, 26 in remington sporter countour barrel twisted at 1-8. Used it for hogs, yotes and deer. 105 Bergers at 3300 are pretty amazing.

35 Whelen, 357 Pistol bullets for the small stuff and with heavies enough Whomp for anything on this continent.

I shot a 358 Norma Mag for a number of years and shot 148gr double ended wadcutters over a small dose of shotgun powder(from the Lyman Manual) 50 yard clover leafs were common. it was my favorite squirrel and rabbit gun. Somebody wanted it bad so I downsized to a 35 Whelen, turns out to be perfect.

Rough estimate: A 270 with a 143 grain bullet and 26" barrel would be limited to about 3000fps. You will need the extra volume the 6.5-06AI case allows to get over 3000 due to 6.5mm/.264 being a smaller caliber.

Sure wish these wildcat dies were easier to get and less costly. But I realize that not being commercial comes with that.
6.5 Sherman Hornady dies in stock for $175

A 25-06 is a 6,5mm-06. This is much better round than a 250-3000 that is the same as the 6,5 CM.
I think a 25-06 would be great in a long action rifle. It is also called a 25 Niedner.
It is right in there with a 257 Weatherby. 75 grain Sierra HP @ 3,675 fps with W-760 powder.
Makes 120 grain right at around 3,000. That would be a fine deer or yote rifle.

Huh? A 25-06 is a 6.5-06? NOPE. Called a 25 niedner? NOPE. 25-06 would be great in a long action? What other action would you even remotely consider? 250-3000 is the same as 6.5 cm? NOPE. Someone is up past their bedtime. Or is just completely clueless.

Personally I think a 25-06ai would be a great change of pace. Could go small and fast bullets or a fast twist and some of the newer high bc bullets.

I must be missing something here.
