17 hornet

Dont have a Hornet but do have a Fireball. Shooting the 25gr. Berger Varmint load I have killed several. All have been shot broadside at inside 130 yds. or so and DRT. This bullet has apparently been discontinued so when I run out of these loads I am going to have to find another.

I only use this gun when we are in "close shot" hunting situations.

My boy uses his CZ 17 Hornet all the time and kills a LOT of coyotes with it.
Many over 250 yards, at that range the bullets don't open well and tend to make Big holes. He uses factory Shells I think like 25 gr?
It is an outstanding round. WIND is your enemy.

These 2 were shot with a 17 Hornet using the 20gr vmax. They were around 125-150 yards out and both dropped instantly with side-on shots. That said, while I think the hornet is fantastic for chucks and small game, if I'm going out specifically for coyotes I will always take a larger option like 223 or 204 ruger. Those have much more downrange energy than the hornet.

I believe Joe at nighteyes.com has been using Hornady 25 gr. Hollow points with great success on fox and coyotes! He harvests a lot of fur !!!
