WHAT Happened??

Problem child: Bushnell 4200 on a Savage 112.

This had not been used for a couple years, sitting in the safe.
I take it out to do a little practicing. Scope had been set to
shoot 1 1/2" high at 100yds. I shoot three shots with all three
hitting a couple inches OVER the target. There was not enough
adjustment to get in the wanted POI. How does this happen with
a scope just sitting in the safe??

Collapsed or broken erector spring. Maybe.

Had a Bushnell that a turret started to separate from the body. Which would sure do it. But you'd be able to see it.

If you send it in for repair, say good-bye to it. They will send you something else to replace it. I sent mine in and got a Forge back.

I own mainly Leupolds with a few Burris thrown in, but I still think the best deals are the Bushnell Banners.

THAT would make me sicker than sick. Thanks for the heads up.
Bushy out did themselves when they made the glass for this
scope. I have never looked through any scope with clearer glass.
Since it sits in Burris Signature rings, I will get some 20*
inserts to see if they will help, but something is surely
wrong. Haven't got very much hope. Am waiting for a call back
from CS.

I have a couple Banners as well, but the glass lacks in
clarity. The Dawn-Dusk feature sure came in handy a couple
of times.

Danno, had similar issue recently with a safe queen scope. Turn the adjustments all the way down and all the way up a couple of times. Worked for me.
I too would hate to lose one of my 4200's.

While you're at it, I'd be checking the ring and base screws. Prob gonna have to resight some anyhow. I've had some weird scope issues over the years too.....and have a back-up scope to throw on when you go to resight....just in case.

amen to checking the rings/bases. since its been a while it could have possibly taken a couple small bumps in the safe, etc.

not likely unless you bull-in-a-china-shop thru your safe , but still possible. never hurts to check the basics when diagnosing a suddenly off the map optic.

goood luck sorting it out and please keep us posted.

If u can center the reticle and see where it lands on target. My base needed shimmed
on my savage. U may just be at the edge of max adjustment

Tried that, and it did improve, but not enough. The best it
would do, bottomed out, is bull's eye at 25 yards. Also checked
rings and base...nothing there. All was good with them.

With Burris Signature rings, I changed the elevation 20* and
the scope is 56 clicks from bottoming out on a 25yd target
shooting 1 1/2" low. That should be in the ball park at 100yds.

Something has clearly drastically changed within the scope
adjustments. It had never been bumped and no one else was able
to mess with it while in the safe. I am VERY perplexed!

Danno, did you also twist the windage. I did both and it's working fine now, fingers crossed.
I, picked up a used 4200 3-9X40 the other day for backup.

Nope, didn't try that. Will do so next mini-range session.
Thanks
