Anomaly or domestic gene

I shot this coyote 4 weeks ago and have been showing this picture around with various opinions.

Definite lines at color change and half white tail

That's at least a 4 or 5 pointer, Flint.

Strictly a WAG but cross w/domestic?

Looks like a farm dog got into the gene pool somewhere along the line. The distinct lines where it changes colors is the giveaway for hybridization. Interesting animal!

Coy dog for sure, they come in all colors. I shot one in '06 that weighed 63 lbs, looked exactly like a coyote. Must have been a great dane running with the pack.

seems like those color phased coyotes are almost common further east where a guy can see any thing from black, tan, to red. Maybe those blood lines are spreading west.

Pretty cool at any rate. Doing anything special with it?

It was still pretty blue when I skinned it. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I guess I'll see what kind of shape it's in when it comes out of the freezer and then decide.

I shot one like that 15 years ago called it a blonde. We have a fair number of black ones that show up too. I know of 6 or 7 in last ten years. I’d post pics but no longer have a computer and photo buckets a no go.
