Plusar Thermion

I thought I read somewhere it was below the xq38 as far as field of view. Whats the latest ETA for the XM30 and the trail xq38?

Thermion XM38, 4x Base Mag, 5.8x4.3 FOV, 320 res - 12 micron core
Thermion XM30, 3.5x Base Mag, 7.3x5.5 FOV, 320 res - 12 micron core
Trail XQ38, 2.1x Base Mag, 9.8 x 7.4FOV, 384 res - 17 micron core

The XM30 falls in between the Thermion XM38 and the Trail XQ38 for Field of View. It has more than the Thermion XM38 but less than the Trail XQ38. You would have to talk to Tom at Night Goggles on ETA on thermals. Tom Austin PROGRAMS DIRECTOR 909-312-5424 X531

According to what I am reading, the XM30 also doesn't have a focusable objective lens. That may or may not be an issue for some.

Seems to me Pulsar is taking one step forward with the 12 micron core, but two steps back with other features. I do like the traditional rifle scope look, though.

Ciao Kirsch !

Hi Kirsch! I realized that you are a great specialist and a true connoisseur on the subject: "thermal devices". In the other topic I wrote the first impressions of the Pulsar Thermion XP50 that kindly made me try for a night in Croatia. I agree with you. To make shots at 200 meters, at night, in total darkness, from high and fixed stalking, it takes magnification. Looking at a roe deer 260 meters away with the Pulsar Accolade XP50 binoculars you could see clearly, but with the Thermion XP50 you saw it very small. I would like to ask you for advice ... do you think I can buy the Thermion XM50, without having to try it first? My fear is that, having a core of only 320x240 pixels, you don't see the details well. I have tended to be opposed to buying medium and low definition thermal devices. I have the bad feeling of throwing money out of the window. I had the Flir PS24, then the Flir PS32, then the Flir LS-X, later the Flir LS-XR and finally in Pulsar Accolade XP50 binoculars which is a real wonder. I would never take a step back ...

For anyone consistently shooting at a target at 200+ meters, the 320x240 scopes should work well. I haven’t used the Pulsar Themion XM50. However, I do own the Flir PTS536 which has similar specs and I have taken coyotes out to around 360 meters.

If budget is available, you could also move up to a 640x480 12 micron scope such as a NVision LR or Trijicon MK3 60 but these are 2-3 times the price.

Thanks Kirsch you are very kind and always give precise and competent answers and advice. I think, having already the Pulsar Accolade XP50 LRF thermal binoculars, which has a large FOV (12.4 × 9.3), to see and identify the wild, I will book the Pulsar Thermion XM50, which costs € 3500 ($ 4000) with the discount. The serious problem is that it will arrive only in end-September !! I don't know if I can wait that long time. While the Pulsar Thermion XP50 (€ 4700 discounted, $ 5350) is ready for immediate delivery. Here in Italy you can only buy 2 other 640x480 devices that have a decent FOV, but they are crazy: Atn Thor 4 640 4.0x FOV 8.3x6.2 (€ 6920 discounted, $ 7890) and Armasight Predatherm pro 640 2.8x (not I know the FOV but ... 9450 € - 10770 $ !!!!!).
If you come to visit Italy, we will go hunting in Croatia (only 240 km from my house) to: fox, jackal, badger, hog.

So you can also visit my city: Padua, which has the largest Saint in the world (Sant'Antonio), the largest square in Europe (Prato della valle), the oldest university in Italy, Giotto's frescoes most beautiful in the world (Cappella degli Scrovegni), the Risorgimental coffee (Pedrocchi) with the hole of an Austrian musket bullet fired in 1848, one of the largest churches in Christianity (Santa Giustina) with the bones of Saint Luke the Evangelist, the oldest botanical garden in the world with 7000 botanical species and many other beautiful things to see ....

went ahead and pre-ordered a Thermion XP38 Friday. Do not know at this time when the delivery date will be but I'm on the list.
