Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Be sure you want the toughest dog you ever had. They have an oily coat and a distinctive smell. Mine had yellow eyes and were extremely protective of property and family.

I had a Chessie [beeep], she was part of the family until she died in an accident with a farm wagon. The male dog I had was pretty growlley to other dogs and would fight in a blink. They could bay and had a good voice like a hound.

We had four mallards down on a pond. She had to break ice to get them but she did.

I still like the breed but don't have the job for the dog.

If I was you I would read some breed descriptions and breed history. They were bred to guard the owners boat overnight and sleep in a snowbank and they will.

I absolutely agree with the above comment. Temperament with this breed is very important. Best dog I ever owned and have missed him every day since he moved on.
