I like a 30 cal. I down loaded my 30-06 but to be sure used FMJ. Shot him behind shoulder and he was dead before he hit the ground. Boon and Crockett cat. You should have no issues with a 308 although I would down load and make sure shot placement is good. Good luck a fun hunt.

early in the season I use a 30-06, just in case a bear comes in but I might also use a .44 mag rifle, it's a semi auto ruger I really like especially if I'm calling in the brush that day. more open country its the ottsix though.

later in the season I use a .223 when the bears are sleeping, so the only potential is bobcats, coyotes and mt lion. I'm often on a snowmobile.

once I tag a lion or the season is ended... I switch to .17 hmr for bobcat only, but possibly a yote but the shots are close as I'm calling in the thick brush anyways for those bobs.

I've been holding off on the cats this year because I want it prime, would like to full body mount it so I want a purdy one.

I called in and bagged my Mountain Lion with my .17 Remington (centerfire) --- 25 gr. Hornady Hollow Point.

..... behind right shoulder ... 65 yards ....bullet tumbled off front rib.... cat ran maybe hundred yards.... dead as a doornail.

The old .17 Remington is VERRY Under-Appreciated.

I'm not an expert in any manor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn when I went to a Rainshadow seminar. He likes a fast stepping midrange cartridge and thinks the shock factor on a cats nervous system is important.

The few times I've gone out I carried a 250 Savage and 25-204 , 87gr Hotcores and 100gr Partitions.

Good luck on your hunts.

In a .17 Remington, use the (now discontinued) Hornady 25 gr. hollow point.

Place it well.
