No argument can be made that the AR15 is not in common use today among American shooters and sportsmen.
I consider the AR15 the standard by which all other rifle choices should be compared to whenit comes to being adequately armed, not saying the AR15 is THE best, just saying it affords the bare minimum a citizen should have at their disposal when it comes to self-defense and protection.
