NRA Announces Ad Campaign to Defeat Phil Bredesen
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) today kicked-off a seven-figure campaign in Tennessee to inform voters that a vote for Phil Bredesen is a vote for the Schumer/Pelosi/Feinstein gun control agenda. The first ad of the campaign, Always Tennessee, will air on cable, regional broadcast, radio and digital platforms.

Federal Court Upholds N.J. Mag Ban, Reminds Gun Owners Importance of Federal Judiciary
Just in case gun owners needed another reason to back Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court or to get energized ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey gave us one. On September 28, District Judge Peter G. Sheridan denied a motion for a preliminary injunction that would have enjoined enforcement of New Jersey’s 10-round magazine capacity limit.

Anti-gun Researcher Refutes His Own Anti-gun Conclusion
Doctor Garen Wintemute’s latest contribution to “the prevention of firearm violence” comes in the form of a Perspective column published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Wintemute, you may recall, is the Director of the UC Davis Violence Prevention Research Program and the UC Firearm Violence Research Center. He proposes a two-prong solution to stop mass shootings. The solution, according to Doctor Wintemute? So-called “comprehensive background checks” and emergency protective orders, which “allow courts to have firearms removed temporarily from people who pose an imminent hazard to others or themselves but are not members of a prohibited class.”

The Trace Got Something Right
Earlier this week, FiveThirtyEight collaborated with The Trace to report that the CDC is publishing unreliable data on nonfatal firearms injuries. Fatal firearms injury data from the CDC is based on death certificates. Nonfatal injury data is collected through a survey conducted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The survey is small – only 100 out of 5,534 registered hospitals are surveyed and only 66 provide the relevant data. That is less than 2% of all hospitals in the country. The results are harrowing.

Former NY City Mayor Michael Bloomberg giving $250K to Gillum as they campaign together in South Florida
Add another billionaire to Andrew Gillum’s growing list of well-heeled financial backers. As he heads to South Florida to appear with Parkland parents, former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg is cutting a $250,000 check to the Democratic gubernatorial nominee’s political committee. Following an event Friday in Coral Springs on behalf of his Everytown for Gun Safety, the possible 2020 presidential candidate is scheduled to appear Saturday in West Palm Beach at a Democratic party fundraiser and then with Gillum Sunday at a Century Village Jewish center in Pembroke Pines.
