Things you see and make you wonder.....

At the club today, a guy with a brand spanking new Savage Model 11, 6.5CM with a VX5 on it was sighting it in. He had 3 different box's of ammo. After about 10 rounds, and still not sighted in, he gets his cleaning rod out, some patchs and a jar of some type of paste. Then runs about 3-4 patchs down the barrel.....from the muzzle end to the action. I kinda cringed but didn't say anything. After 10 more rounds, the cleaning starts over. I had to say something this time. I said, You really should push from the chamber end out. He replied, its new and I'm just sighting it in for now. Okie Dokie, I'll just go back over here and watch. I did get a box of Remington hulls out of the deal so it worked out for me. I left before he went through the other 2 box's.

10 rds. not sighted in, pasty patch cleaning from the muzzle end. Sounds completely normal for the public range I go to.

I do feel guilty sometimes. I go there for 50% shooting and 50% entertainment !

I left out some of the conversation. He said he didn't need real tight groups cause he's no paper puncher. Just good enough groups to kill what he's shooting at.

There must have been a sale on spotting scopes somewhere because around here i have seen 3 different people at the 50 yd and 25yd ranges with massive scopes on AR's and spotting scopes trying to get them on paper.

I have picked up a pile of .223/5.56 brass at the 25 yard bench. Just makes you wonder???

We just had a guy trade in a Armalite AR, with a 4-50X with a 34mm tube and 56mm obj

We took the scope off and weighed it, it came in at svelte 3lbs. It was a Secovision brand,or something like that.

He had the sun shade stuffed full of cut of black drinking straws to guard against glare,I guess.

He said it was the best coyote gun ever made.

Oh, there is really nothing that compares to the entertainment of watching events unfold at a busy boat ramp, especially, if it's on a busy holiday weekend.

I’m a bit of a lake rat. Probably fish 100 days in the average year. One of my favorite activities if to grab a 6 pack and sit on top of the ramp on holiday weekends....

We talked about just going to the range next weekend to watch, as Rifle deer season will be the weekend after that.

People being new to a sport or activity doesn’t bother me, but the hard charging “experts” kill me.

This is why I do not generally buy used rifles. Never know what the nut job did cleaning the barrel. The sad thing is that there are really are no excuses these days aside from laziness. All you have to do is type how to clean a rifle into youtube and you will get tons of videos and many are from reliable sources like midway usa or brownells.

Now what fun is that? If everyone knew the right way to clean a barrel it wouldn't be fun anymore.

Honest to god, the last time I was at one a buddy was walking back from the ramp and said to me, "dude, you gotta walk down there and look at this!!"
I go to the pier and see one of our local Indian doctors {this cat is a heart specialist} getting ready to get his new boat out of the water. I say "hi" and he says, "I don't understand it, boat does not run like when I tried it at dealer"...I look and this idiot still has the trailer attached to the bottom of the boat. At first I thought it was a stingray swimming in front of the bow, but it was {no B.S.} the spare tire on the tongue of the trailer. This genius backed the boat into the water, unhooked the ball hitch and went boating!!!! Yes, with the trailer still under the boat. And he is disappointed that it didn't quite "go" like when he tried it out. True story, I wish I had filmed it!!!! The look on his face was priceless when I told him how to actually launch the boat!!!
