Museum grade HONDURAN ROSEWOOD Burl, and pic 2 is a howler in AFZELIA The howler has 3 bands of Turquoise, the stones were picked for color, then crushed by hand , and inlaid. The package has been donated to the U.S. PREDATOR CHALLENGE and will be up for auction for a scholarship for a youth hunter that will be go to college.
Afzelia, is rare on the World market. It comes from S.E. Asia, and since 2005 has become increasingly difficult to get especially in burl form. Highly figured burl in Afzelia is now RARE, Extremely rare.Import of new pieces is almost non existent and most pieces have no figure. Afzelia burl with good figure is generally from private collections rather than recent imports. Pieces larger than 6"X6"X2" are considered large for the species.
