6TCU and 58gr Vmax

I’m looking for suggestions on powders that any of you have had success with when loading 6TCU or 6x45 and 58grVmaxs.

Typically I wouldn’t load such a light bullet but I have tons of them and like them on prairie dogs.

I’m thinking H335, 322, Varget, or CFE223. Thanks

I shoot a 6x45 and a 6mm-204, H-335, AA-2230 and Benchmark are my goto powders, 58gr V-Max and 55gr NBT Lead Frees are my favorite coyote bullets in them.

Ok fellas you both mentioned benchmark so that’s where I’ll go. I do have some aa2230 and H335 as well so I’ll keep those in mind. Thanks for the input.

AA2230 and H335 will give you the best speed with accuracy, and your barrel life should be 6000+ rounds. We learned this on red hot p. dog towns, but we shot a 6x47 Remington with H335, will be hard to wear out a barrel in the 6x45...no kidding.

We shot a lot of H322, but the barrel needs cleaning much more often than with 335 or benchmark. We shot 300 hard and fast rounds inbetween cleanings with the 6x47Remington.

60g Sierra is a whale of a coyote round, and our barrel lengths were 27-28". As soon as the 204 came out, I though this would make one heck of a coyote round with long barrel life with H335 or 2230.

Sorry, it’s an MGM 16.25” TC Contender Barrel 1:10 twist.

Thanks for the information. I went out and tried som Benchmark, but I was an idiot and didn’t bring any sight in rounds. I usually bring 3-5 rounds with the middle load I’m testing to warm the barrel up a little and get a decent zero in. So needless to say I was chasing my test loads around like some green horn. Anyway, I did manage to get 4 shots with 27.0gr of Benchmark on paper and it looks promising. Just under an inch. I’m going to work on this some more but I have a buddy coming up to shoot prairie dogs this weekend so these will have to do for now.

I use accurate 2200 in my 16" ar15 chambered in 6x45 and get great velocity and accuracy using 55gr nosler ballistic tips. With the max listed powder charge I was getting over 3300 fps but just under max I am getting 3230 and great accuracy. This load has proven deadly on prairie dogs and coyotes out to 400 yards

acronin, you are giving up at least 100+ fps with benchmark, but you may need the temp stability.

You should be in the 3400 fps area.

With a 16.5" barrel???

Im getting 3240ish out of my bhw 10 twist 16" 6x45 with 27 grains of 2200. Way faster than any other powder. Accuracy has been best with 55 varmageddons and is under 1" at 100 yards. 27.6 will put me at 3300 with 55 bts but flyers show up. Accuracy was good enough at 27 grains and 55 varmageddons that I stopped.

Looks like you are getting results almost identical to what i'm getting with 2200. good stuff

For your info- the 6TCU-6x47-6/204 are all the same case capacity 31 gr +/-. Beware, if you have a 6x47, those old nickel plated Rem cases will turn you .243 bullets into .241 bullets. That nickel plating get harder with age. I have a new plated case in my cartridge collection that I put a bullet into about 5yrs ago for looks and popped the bullet last week to compare the cap. with my TCU cases. The cases had the same cap. but on looking at the bullet the plating had torn up the shank of the bullet. About 30yrs ago I reloaded some 30-30 plated for a friend and it DESTROYED the sizing bell on the primer punch.

The 223 case used for 6TCU has the taper blown out, but that much?

The 6x47 and 6-204, pretty much clones, though somone said the shoulder is further forward on the 204.

I think I will go dump some 748 in a 204 and a 6TCU, gotta be several grains difference.
