Rogers Sporting Goods has Federal Heavyweight Turkeys loads on sale for $14.99 per box of 5 shells with FREE SHIPPING if you spend $100.00 or more.

https://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/ammunition/turkey-load/heavyweight-magshok.html

The Federal Heavyweight 3-1/2" Turkey loads are 1-7/8 oz loads and Rogers has #5, #6 and #7 shot in the 3-1/2" loads.

If you take the shot out of these 3-1/2" shells you will get 9.37 ounces for $15.00, that comes to $1.60 per ounce or $25.60 per pound. BPI is charging $30.00 per pound if you buy 5 pounds, if you buy 1 pound it is $36.99 per pound PLUS shipping.

It is pretty easy to take the shot out of the new Federal Heavyweight shells.

Rogers has 3" 1-5/8 oz Federal Heavyweight loads but they are also $14.99 per box so I ordered the 3-1/2" shells to get the 1-1/4 ounce more shot per box. It looks like they don't have any #5 shot in the 3" 1-5/8 oz loads.

Federal Heavyweight 15g/cc shot out performs Lead shot, Hevi-Shot, Remington HD shot and HW13 shot that is 12g/cc shot by a huge margin.

Getting Federal Heavyweight shot shipped to your house for for just about $2.00 more per pound than HW13 shot is a great deal. Using Federal Heavyweight shot in 28 ga and 20 ga guns will make them out perform 12 ga and 10 ga guns shooting steel shot.

Below is some data from KPY Shotshell Ballistic program showing how effective 15g/cc Federal Heavyweight shot is. KPY recommends 1.50" of gel penetration to reliably kill ducks.

Steel #5 shot at 1800 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 30.9 yards.
Lead #5 shot at 1300 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 55.6 yards.
Hevi-Shot #5 shot at 1300 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 68.5 yards.
Federal Heavyweight #5 shot at 1300 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 110.4 yards.

A 3" 12 ga 1-1/4 oz of Steel #2 shot load at 1600 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 50.1 yards and has 154 pellets in a 1-1/4 oz load.
A 7/8 oz Federal Heavyweight#7 shot load at 1300 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 75.1 yards and it has 195 pellets in a 7/8 oz load.

These Federal Heavyweight 12 ga 3-1/2" 1-7/8 oz #5 Turkey loads that are on sale at Rogers are around a $1.50 to $2.50 per shell cheaper than the Hevi-Shot 12 ga 3-1/2" 1-3/4 oz Goose loads and they will out perform them by quite a bit.

If you buy the 10 ga 2 oz loads you can get 1/8 oz more shot for the same price.

EDIT - thought this was on TSS shot, not Fed HVYWGT...my mistake! Thanx for the heads up Bob, and all your insight on the move forward towards the ultimate ammo!

For recoil sensitive shooters this Federal Heavyweight 15g/cc shot works great and it will out perform the much harder kicking and faster 12 ga steel shot loads.

3" 12 ga 1-1/4 oz of steel #2 shot has 154 pellets, at 1600 fps #2 steel shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 50.1 yards

2-3/4" 28 ga 3/4 oz of 15g/cc FHW #7 shot has 164 pellets, at 1250 fps FHW #7 shot gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 73.1 yards.

It looks like the sale is over and the price per box of five 3-1/2" shells went up from $14.99 to $35.99. So the price per shell went back up $4.20 per shell.

The sale is back on at Rogers Sporting Goods with free shipping if you spend $100.00 or more.

You guys that hunt ducks and geese that don't reload should check this out.

The 2-3/4" 1-1/4 oz Federal Heavyweight Turkey loads in #6 and #7 shot for $2.00 per shell is a great buy. Federal Heavyweight 15g/cc shot is 35% denser than lead shot.

If you bought ten pounds of HW13 shot the cost for each 1-1/4 oz load would be right at $1.80 per shell.

The Federal Heavyweight 15g/cc shot out performs HW13 12g/cc shot by quite a bit. The factory loaded Heavyweight 2-3/4" 1300 fps loads are only 20 cents more per shell than what 1-1/4 oz of HW13 shot costs.

If you don't reload and want some GREAT duck and goose loads these Federal Heavyweight 2-3/4" 12 ga Turkey loads are a great buy.

Ducks
FHW #7 shot at 1300 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 75.1 yards with 274 pellets per 1-1/4 oz load.
Steel #2 shot at 1550 fps gets 1.50" of gel penetration at 48.8 yards with 154 pellets per 1-1/4 oz load.

Geese
FHW #6 shot at 1300 fps gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 53.1 yards with 206 pellets per 1-1/4 oz load.
Steel #BB shot at 1500 fps gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 39.4 yards with 89 pellets per 1-1/4 oz load.

Any experience using the heavyweight 6’s on coyotes? Any reason they wouldnt work if an effective pattern is delivered inside 50 yards?

I have no experience shooting FHW #6 shot at coyotes. The smallest shot I have ever shot at coyotes is TSS #4 shot. Each TSS #4 shot pellet weighs twice as much as a FHW #6 pellet does.

A good pattern really doesn't matter much if the shot doesn't weigh enough to get good penetration.

The FHW #6 shot may kill coyotes at 40 yards and less if you shoot then in the face.

For me I want shotgun coyote loads that can penetrate deep into the coyote at any angle no matter which way the coyote is running.

I have had great results shooting the FHW # 2 shot at coyotes. Each #2 shot pellet weighs two and a half times more than a FHW #6 pellet does.

From KPY Shotshell Ballistics
FHW #6 shot at 1300 fps gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 19.6 yards.
FHW #2 shot at 1300 fps gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 70.5 yards.

KPY recommends 2.50" of gel penetration to reliably kill big geese. I want 3.70" of penetration to reliably kill or break down coyotes.
